If you only have your fish in a 1 gallon bowl, how often should you change the water?
I was changing Spike's bowl once week and all of the water.
Should I change it more often?

I posted for you in "Health and Illness"
A 1 gallon bowl IS NOT SUITABLE FOR A GOLDFISH, you can keep a Betta in there, BUT NEVER EVER A GOLDFISH.
Please read the post in there....ok? .... it always hurts and turns my heart reading about goldfish being kept in a bowl and nothing else provided....
You also should read up about cycling and about goldfish requirements. There are good articles on the www. Google for "aquatic community"

My mom said we couldn't get a bigger container for my fish that they cost too much but she said I could get a airation ornament and pump for the bowl.
But she called my aunt and told her my fish died so my aunt has a turtle and it out grew it's tank so she is giving me the old tank.
It is a 15 gallon LONG tank. How many fish can I keep in the LONG tank? I really want 2 fish.
My mom is letting me buy a plant for the tank too.
What kind of conditioner should I buy my new fish for the lONG tank?
So if everything costs not more than $25 then I can get water conditioner, air pump and ornament and 2 fish and a plant.

ONE goldfish needs minimum 10 gallon.
Keeping 2 goldfish in only 15 gallon will lead to problems.
Goldfish are "messy" this means they produce lots of waste. This means they will very quickly swim in their own sewerage. They won't feel well, they will get stressed and they will develop deseases and will die.
Sure you do not want to go through all this again, having fish dying. They do not deserve this.
So why MUST it be goldfish? If you cannot have an aquarium to give them a happy life?
Why don't you investigate at the pet shop about other fish which can live HAPPILY in those conditions you can provide.
Think of those pretty living creatures, I said before they DO HAVE FEELINGS like us humans. DO you really want to put YOUR desire before their comfort? How will you feel knowing your fish are suffering but you pleased yourself?
You will need conditioner for every fish tank to remove chemicals from the tap water. I use API StressZyme and API StressCoat. You will also need a test kit for Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate and pH. Here I use the API MasterTestKit. They all have instructions how to use it. No matter what kind of fish you decide to get, you will need those.
I hope and I wish you to make a wise decision.

When referring to gallons does anyone know which type of gallons it is? In the UK where I live we have a different measurement for a gallon than in the US. I assume when everyone is talking about gallons they are talking about US Gallons, so one goldfish needs 10 US gallons or 38 litres? I'm just a bit confused because all the tank sizes seem to be in litres in the UK and I don't know which measurement for gallons to use.

I am sure it is US gallons, I had to adjust too, as here in Aussie we do measure in litres and cm, m, and degrees Celsius
How much is an UK gallon ?

It is US gallons. **** confusing world
But besides that I agree with everything Hanna said and you should definitely listen to her. If you are going to get a goldfish (or any animal!) you need to be able to offer it the best life possible and that means being able to afford the best live possible for it. I recommend going and getting a book on goldfish, even just from your local library. If you can't give a fish the live the book tells you to for under 25 dollars then don't get one. Honestly here in Australia you could not get that stuff for under 25 dollars so may be you should wait a couple of years until you have a job and then get a goldfish. Money is annoying but you don't want any more fish to die

Andrea: I figured that out
But I dunno why this forum is censoring things all the time! Guess it's for more sensitive people but come oon... "D*mn" isn't such a bad word d:
FishRFun: I commented something very similar on the illness thread as well. If you get the 15 gallon, you can keep at most one goldfish there. Don't think that "They're so small for now! I can fit another one there..." because they grow, and they do it FAST. I've had my 3 fantails (when they were small) in an 8 gallon tank with pretty good aeration and flow, but after just 4 months or so, they started feeling really unhappy (they were at most 1+ inches long!). Now I have an 83 gallon for those, and for my orandas, moor and pompom. So it's simply... it's better the bigger tank you buy! Get the biggest you can afford when you can, because otherwise it's going to be a pain both for you and your fish.

Ok thanks.
I thought it was US gallons but I wasn't quite sure. A UK gallon is 4.55 litres. Its all so confusing

OK, my aunt is giving me a 20 gallon filter and we bought an air pump and a inside tank bubbler filter kit. It goes inside the tank but the one my aunt is giving me is on the back of the tank. It's a power filter. we bought a bag of gravel that has water conditioner and bacteria in it. The gravel will cycle the tank. It is called Carib Sea Instant Aquarium gravel. Have you ever heard of it? thank you for your help.

Hi FishRFun,
this is what I found out: (

I've never heard of it before... well so much to get out there. But it sounds good to me.
You'll see, being here on this forum, everybody will learn A LOT. Nobody knows everything but everybody knows different things. And sharing knowledge is so fantastic.
Thank you letting us know about this kind of gravel.
You do have a good equipment to start your aqua hobby. But as Andrea mentioned: You can keep only ONE goldfish in the 15 gallon tank. This is true, I went through the same experience: Our 2 goldfish lived first in a 34 l tank, we were told by the people in the pet shop that this is plenty, plenty for 2 goldfish. And they were small when we first got them and happy. But after 3 month the tank started to be too small, it was more and more difficult to keep the waterquality right and our fish were stressed.
This is why we got a 150 l tank now and they are so happy in there. And they love to be together. Goldfish don't like it to be alone.
Keep us updated about the process

It might actually be a bit more fun to keep some small tropical fish there since they require less space, and a single goldfish might feel a bit lonely in there. Well, it's up to the owner to decide
