Keep fingers crossed please so it won't rain tomorrow. We WANT to spray the stand, re seal the edges of that tank. And then I'll make it "bling,bling" with metal polish  Roll Eyes

GOOD NEWS, we got an aquarium light today, 3 ft one for AU$ 55, slim design, fits under the hood, rests on the tank sides, just perfect. Got it from another pet shop, made the tour today and shopped in 5 (!) It is second hand too, but in very good nick. New ones would have cost about AU$ 130.
Also bought a lovely "Deep Sea" background poster.    .....and seen sooooooooooo cuuuuuuuuuuuuute fishies: white comets with a red "hat" or yellow-golden with a black "hat" and stripe along the back and the dorsal fin black and gold. Looked as if they were dressed up to go out for dinner  Cheesy Some had a black dot on their nose, like a doggy nose, lol SO SWEET

Sealed the tank today and polished the edges, hubby put undercoat on the stand, it will be sprayed tomorrow.
Next weekend we'll take it inside and I can start filling it, setting it up and while it starts cycling we will restore the hood.


AWWW this is exciting !!! Shocked  Roll Eyes  Grin

Where are you putting the new tank?  In the living room or other room?

Stand is sprayed and finished, needs to dry. Ideal today in the winter sun, about 22 degrees celsius; now we're working on the hood.

LOL, I remember the COLD winters we had sometimes in Munich, -18 and so, and once we flew out for holidays to Australia and they had to defrost the plane before take off.  Shocked... I was shaking in the cabin, I was REALLY SCARED

Hanna: The stand looks lovely. I'm trying to see if my boyfriend or his brother can make me one for my b-day, maybe I'll model it off that but with some doors. Plus those comets with the litle 'hats' sound soo cute, wish I saw ones like that here. I'd get a black hat one hehe Tongue

We're thinking of having that black sparkling gravel and a few white patches. I also bought a nice piece of driftwood for the centre piece. I think the golden fishies will look nice swimming above the dark gravel?

The plants and the fish would standout so beautifully then Smiley The gravel I have for my tank is rather dark too, but kinda' mixed so it has some lighter parts Cheesy And I have a few whitish green pebbles to go with it Smiley

Hey! You should get some white pebbles for that! It'd be so pretty!

Is this the hood or is it a canopy for the tank?  Or maybe it is part of the stand?
Is there another glass piece or plastic with glass that fits on the top of the aquarium under this??
Sorry trying to get a visual in my head. Smiley
Just thinking that if this is the only thing between the aquarium and the tank that water fron condensation might be a problem?
Sorry sometimes I think too much.  Just didn't want this beautiful piece to be ruined by water and salt and other chemicals that go into the tank. Undecided

Thank you Mindemae, it is the hood and the piece for the flap, which we will put together with those deco-hinges and with the fish knob. On earlier pics in this post there is the stand. I will buy some dark brown baskets to "hide" the fish stuff, as it hasn't got doors.

Nossie, white pebbles, what a great idea. Cheesy

We chose the brown colour because it matches with the rest of our furniture, some sort of coffe-chocolate brown

... need to work Sat + Sun, will have Mon+Tue off, Tue we've got house inspection  Tongue

This one may be a better pic of the stand. On top the white stuff is that polystyrene... it got a bit brown while spraying, but nobody will see this with the tank on it, lol

I have a little tip for you! Smiley

You know these wax cloths for tables? These are incredibly useful to have under a tank since it will protect the furniture under it from water stains Smiley So, just for your stand to be as nice as possible for as long as possible it might be a good investment Wink
I've used a cloth that I have folded twice or three times, so it covers the whole surface of the furniture beneath. It makes things softer under the heavy tank, and protects the furniture even better that way Cheesy (But I guess with the polystyrene on top there, it would be fine with one layer of cloth)
