New member & new Goldfish lover

Hello all, my name is Roger and I am from Bessemer City North Carolina (near Charlotte area).  I have had saltwater setups and Cichlid setups before, but this is my first Goldfish setup. I got a very bad case of ich and lost all my saltwater stock, so I decided to try something different.  I purchased a new 40 breeder tank from Petco during their $1/gallon sale.

Equip includes a Marineland 350 magnum canister filter, Hydor heater, Korollia 2 powerhead, small air pump w/ airstone, and my lighting is 2 55w PC's 50/50 retrofits that I modded into an old non working shop light. I am planning on getting a new light setup next month. Deco is white sand that I had from my old salt setup, a few granite style river rocks, about 10 deco glass rocks, 3 fake plants, and a house on stilts that I used to hide the airstone-bubbles come out of chimney looking like smoke.

Livestock is 1 red/white ryukin, 1 orangish-red regular fantail, 1 blue oranda, 2 black moors, 1 rubber lipped pleco, and 4 snails ( 1 each of-black, ivory, gold, and blue).

I plan on adding a red/white oranda, and a solid red oranda or ryukin. I would also like to get a chocolate oranda if I can find one.

Here are a few pics,  they are not the best quality as I am the worst at taking pictures.  Please let me know what you think of my setup and choices.  Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Tank looks nice, but at the same time I'd change the sant into gravel, as goldfish digg and suck all day. Round pea sized gravel is ideal. With plants I advise for real ones as they help to reduce the nitrate level in the tank water and they also produce oxygen and they are a small snack for your goldfish.

According to the tank size: is it a 40 gallon tank?
If yes, it is already overstocked, as you need minimum 10 gallons per goldfish as they grow fairly quick and need lots of room to swim. Please even don't think of getting more fish in this one.
They are "messy" fish  ( but sooo cute ) this means they produce lots, lots of waste. You will need extra good filtration to keep the whole stock happy and healthy.

I agree with Hanna about the stocking actually, so you should consider giving away some of the inhabitants to narrow it down to a maximum of 4 goldfish.

Your fish are so adorable nonetheless! Your moor looks just like mine, the body shape and the fins! Do they all have names? Smiley
I myself, have an 83 gallon with 8 lovely fish Smiley Actually one of them is a chocolate oranda Wink Along with him lives four fantails, a red, a while and two calico + 2 moors and a red and white oranda Smiley I've also got an overly aggressive pom pom that I keep separately xD

Nice set up! Smiley
Welcome to this site, Roger!!!
I just am setting up a 20 gallon tropical tank with a sandy bottom.  I have never used sand before but like that "sea/beach" look it produces!  I just hope I'm careful and do not suck up too much sand when I clean and vaccuum the tank? Cheesy
