Hey guys.

I have recently set up a coldwater tank and added my first goldfish yesterday (an oranda). I just have a question about feeding. I didn't feed him yesterday as it was the first day I had him. When I bought him I bought the Tetra sinking pellets so he wouldn't be gulping air when he ate floating food. I put a pinch in this morning and they sank immediately, and he hasn't eaten any of them. I know you are meant to remove the food remaining after a couple of mins but he hasn't even eaten any (I am wondering if he can't see it against the colour of the gravel because I struggle to see it too).

He seems fine and healthy - in fact I'm wondering if he just isn't hungry because he is spending all his time trying to eat one of the live plants I put in there (there wasn't any in the tank at the shop so I guess he's just discovering pants!).

Anyway, should I just remove the food and try later and then just keep doing that til he eventually eats something or should I float a few flakes on the surface?

Also I have heard you can feed goldfish small amounts of fruit and veg e.g. oranges and lettuce. Is there anything that is a definite no-no so far as food?
