Cold Scape
« on: February 08, 2012, 04:35:26 AM »

Hi, my name is Danijel and Iím from Croatia. Iím 3 years in aquarist hobby (mostly warm water planted tanks) and 6 months ago I tried with this cold water set up.
Inside this 18G tank are 2 young fantails, 2 nerita snails and 1 ancistrus (for algae control). Choice of plants are anubias nana, cryptocoriyne var balance and brown crypt, because those are one of rare plants that goldies donít eat.
Stone is from local river, and branch is from willow tree. Filter is Ferplast Bluewave 03 which does perfect filtration and I also change 25% of water once per week.
Thatís it for now, enjoy.

So beautiful! Wow! Smiley
I love how you put it all together and the colors of the gravel go so well with the plants and all.

But since you have two goldies, it'll be necessary to change 50-60% of the water once a week Smiley

Nice set up

May I ask how you rendered the willow safe, so that it doesn't leech salicylates into the tank water?

Willow branch is cleaned, baked in owen, and dried to the bone Smiley in the sun and also bark is piled off. It's secured with rock to prevent it to float out.
I've got twice as much filter material as usual, and also this "gravel" is Akadama mixed with minced vulkanic stone and vulcanic ash which provides nutrients for plants and great habitat for beneficial bacterias.

Beautiful tank.  It's great to see how your fishes have grown.  I wish you were close by...I would hire you to "interior" decorate my tank.  You have a great eye for balance and sculpture.

What are those plants with long leaves in the corner? Looks a little like java fern, but I don't think they can have such long leaves Huh

Beautiful tank  Smiley

You mentioned the pleco was Ancistrus? Is it a female then as it has no bristles? Looks like a big ancistrus at that!

How Beautiful and I didn't know Anubis got flowers-NEAT. I'm just happy to have kept my plants alive, so seeing that flower on there makes me want them to live and grow all the more! Very, very nice!
