Platy girl?
« on: September 04, 2011, 02:59:34 AM »

Yo!

I have a couple of platies in a 10 gallon tank that I got from a friend Wink
Now, I have four ladies and two boys, all but one lady, Isis are very active swimming about.
Thing is here, she doesn't show any kind of illness whatsoever, her fins are all erect and she eats well (even if she doesn't come to the surface to do so), I change their water regularly etc.

Do you have any ideas on what's wrong? She's the biggest one in the bunch too... : D

If a fish, platy in this case, doesn't show any obvious sign of disease - then there isn't much you can do other than check the water parameters and temperature to make sure they are in the ideal range.

Some things you could check are the pH , water hardness, and temperature. Ideally, the pH should be around 7-8.5 with hard water and the water temperature on the cooler side around 73-77 Fahrenheit (23 -25 Celsius).

Also you can check to see if she's pregnant, since this can alter her behaviour. A pregnant female platy will tend to hide a lot more then usual and sometimes sit on the bottom or in a corner somewhere. It's always a good sign when a fish continues to eat.

She was pregnant when I bought her it seemed Wink After a week of keeping her the tank was full of babies! But sadly they didn't make it... the feels like it was really recent though, and I haven't noticed the boys being around her much...
Well, in any case, I'll just be keeping an eye on things then, thanks Smiley

Just thought I'd update:
After keeping them in an emergency tank while treating Horus, Isis started swimming happily with the rest of the platies when I introduced them to their home again after cleaning it all thoroughly to get rid of all the germs Wink
So no more problems on my side Smiley
