Fish floats upside down

 Our eight year old female goldfish floats upside down in tank, She has been having trouble swiming downwards,she seems to be too bouyant, she has been this way off and on for a month.

Sounds like a swim bladder problem, have you tried feeding her only peas for a while?

Thank you for your advice, we will try that and see what happens.
WE might also put her in a separate tank to make sure she gets her fair share, there are five tank mates plus three picassomas in the 150 gal. tank

Oh also with the peas, be sure to take their skins off before feeding Smiley
Usually I just de-thaw a frozen pea, pop it's shell off and feed little bits to my goldie. If you have fresh pea's, then be sure to boil them for a little bit to soften them up for the goldfish Smiley

Is there an antibotic that we could get for this problem? She seemed ok for a few days and then started back to same problem. We took her out of the tank away from all her budies, so we thought we would start over , not feeding her for a couple days and start the peas again. Any other suggestions?? Desperate Huh to keep her alive. Huh Huh

Are there any other signs of illness asides from the floating upside down? Is the fish still eating? Any other physical or behavioural changes?

 Our fish seems to be healthy, eats like a hog, and she is not like this all the time. Just noticed the problem she has been having swimming.All five other goldfish seem to be in good health.We have had 2 batches of babies.

I'd say give eating pea's another go, perhaps it's the fishes diet? Do you feed any dry or floating food? This can often trigger swim bladder problems, it may be that this specific goldfish has a sensitive swim bladder compared to the others?
