Maybe it's a sign the fish are a little constipated? Do you feed them mostly commercial goldfish fish pellets or flakes? Trying giving them some vegetable matters such as boiled peas and see if it helps any. Too much plant fiber can cause diarrhea so you have to adjust their diet accordingly.

Stringy poop is a sign that something is wrong with your fish. Healthy fish poo is short and the color of the food they eat, not long and stringy. Your fish could be suffering from a bacterial infection or poor diet.

cough, cough.. thought i would share some of my findings on this interesting topic -medium to short chunky poop or poop that is the color the food = good sign - this is what you want -long thin poop = not eating well, probably stress related -long and thick = constipation or overfeeding - if overfeeding then the food is moving through the fish too fast without adequate time to be digested -clear = reabsorbed eggs -dark and sausage like = gas trapped in floating foods, fish eating bubbles, foods being fermented by gas causing bacteria no poo seen but the water is slightly brown - perhaps diarrhea that has blood - argg not a good sign

Just because the white spots (Ich) has dropped off the fish does not mean that it is gone. Ich drops off the fish and then lays it's eggs in the tank. It is recommended to treat ich for several days. I use a heater and aquarium salt to do this, but I guess you can also use those commercial ich treatments. Salt is just safer and less harsh on the fish's systems.

Well, ich or Ichthyophthirius Multifiliis is actually a parasite that is about the size of grain of sand and appears as tiny little white dots on the fish. Parasites are often visible to the naked eye while bacteria can only be seen with a visual aid, such as a microscope. The ich parasite has a life cycle of around 10 days so you have to make sure the duration of the treatment is long enough to completely eliminate it.

huh. very interesting. reason i asked is cuz im treating my common for ich. ANYWAY do peas clear up fecal issues in the fish?
Depends on what type of "fecal issues" you are talking about. Peas usually will help constipation. As for ich, I usually treat with .3% salt and a temp of about 78 degrees. Once I get my salt up to .3%, I let it stay that way for 10 days. This will kill all the ich on the fish and the ones that hatch from the eggs, too.
