Can I re-home my Black Moor to a pond? Do you have experience of this?

As many others on here, I was sold goldfish (a black moor and a calico fancy) without being told how much room they need to be healthy. Angry

I have had them for 1 year and now they really need re-homing from their 65L tank . I have adverts on Aquarist Classified and Preloved but with no success.

Several people are advertising on these sites that they have ponds and need goldfish.

Can my black moor survive in a pond?

I have searched on Google and have found lots of conflicting information. What I need is to hear from people who have kept them in ponds and whether or not they survived!

Black moor has very poor eyesight, so it is no really suited for a pond environment.  It will probably have a very hard time finding food and fleeing from predators (birds, snakes, etc..) due to this reason.  Also, fancy goldfish are not suited for any type of pond if you live in the northern hemisphere, where the water can freeze during the winter.  So i do not recommend you give these goldfish to someone to be placed in a pond, because their chances of survival is very slim.

Are you able to upgrade to a 113 liter tank? This should be ok for them with a very good filtration system.

Maybe you can ask a local pet shop to see if anyone  of them is willing to adopt these goldfish.

I wouldn't ever put my moor in a pond, especially if you're giving it away to someone who already has, for example commons, comets, shubunkins or koi. The moor would starve Sad And as nabi said, he couldn't escape from the dangers that are included when keeping goldfish in a pond.

Usually pet shops will accept goldfish from keepers who are no longer interested/can't keep them, so you could try asking there Smiley Unless you'd like to upgrade. 40 liters per fish in that case Smiley

This probably doesn't need to be said, but I like to cover all the bases: do NOT flush your fish if you can't find a home for it.  Flushing is akin to torture for fish.
You might try at local schools, now that summer is over.  Many classrooms have class pets, and a fish would be welcome, especially if you would like to give a little presentation on caring for fish.  Also, check with doctor's and dentist's offices, as well as local businesses and restraunts.  Lots of places might welcome a fish to give the place atmosphere and something to occupy and relax people who are waiting.  I know plenty of these places that have fishtanks, and they're a big hit.
