(sorry I haven't been on for a while, the net was down due to thunder Wink)

I do have some photos posted of my ribbontails Smiley They're both calicos, and both should be visible on the second photo in this thread: (Link is not visible to guests. Please register to view.) Samantha is the one by the surface with the brownish streaks on her tail and fins, while the second ribbon tail is pretty much in the middle of the picture! Cheesy The very white one with some black on the tail (and the little red spot by the caudal peduncle)

Thanks Ron, I hope so, about a new friend. That is too funny about your goldies! Maybe Spot and Norm saw each other's coloring and both got jealous and decided to switch!  Cheesy

So those are ribbontails Nossie! I had wondered; we don't have any available where I live  Undecided gorgeous fish btw!  Wink

Thanks, goldiegirl Wink

Yep, those are ribbon tails, simply split tails with pretty long, thin lobes Smiley While I'm at it, I could describe a couple of other, common kinds of tails...
Butterfly tail, barely V-shaped with large pointy lobes, as the name suggests, it has a somewhat butterfly shape.
Veiltail, a very long, flowing double tail with straight edges, as in, not V-shaped. Looks more like the skirt on a dress.
Fringe tail, like a V-shaped veiltail. Long and flowing but with the normal lobes Cheesy

Thanks Nossie for the pics, beautiful fish...  Smiley  what graceful flowing tails they have, the streaks really do give the ribbon effect... I do especially like the calico fantails, after we get a friend for F.B. I would like to set up a tank indoors with some ... You have a great variety of colours within your "school"... your picture gives them a slighty surreal painted look...
And Goldiegirl, thats funny  Cheesy your thoughts on Spot and Norm... The thing with those two, and I think it goes back to their childhood  Grin is that they were born and grew up in a large pond with some very large goldfish, so I think they learned to stay under the radar and out of everyones way (just to survive) and now in their adult life they are unable to change their juvenile ways... I only see them when their hungry. Cheers all > Ron.

Forgot to add... great info on the various tails Nossie, thanks again...

Thanks! Smiley Sadly, they look far better in real life, the camera I have is very, very old and makes everything look grainy :/ Hope to get some better photos later sometime Smiley

Some goldfish never grow up, do they  Wink Mine act like a bunch of toddlers...however, they're all under 2 inches long, so they can be pardoned.

Nossie, not true, your photos are beautiful!  Cheesy Hahhaaha my camera is a brand new didgital but all my photos look grainy anyways - I'm not so talented but still learning (or trying to learn).

Thanks! Smiley I still think the colors look far too unnatural on the screen >>
