What Type of Filter Do You Have?

I'm using the one that came with the kit (from PetSmart) as it was a gift while I'm still cycling. I don't really like it. It's a hang on the back type. It's rather noisy. Supposed to have a 'pleasing waterfall' effect. ::)I think it moves the water too much. I read that goldfish don't care for swimming in currents so much. The actual filters are a type of all-in-one baggie so I'm not sure if it's actually doing the job of filtering well.

I was thinking about getting the Hagen Aqua Clear kind. I had one of theirs years ago that had the little pouches of charcoal and the sponge filters. I know they are somewhat more sophisticated now.

I want something easy and not too expensive. If you have pics please feel free to show me your setup I'm visual like that. Thanks.

I have a filter that came in the package. I use Marina products, and its also an external filter. I actually was having issues with noise too, so I taped the lid down and then its been quiet ever since. hahaha It may just be the lid being rattled around. as for the current, generally if you keep the water level down below the hanging bit (ill post a picture in bit i promise), no current.

At the moment we use the filter which came with the tank( ceramic noodles, sponge, activated carbon ) plus an UG filter.

The tank we are setting up has got an UG filter, we also bought an internal filter ( sponge, bio balls, activated carbon )

Anyway, I love this filtration system and it is super easy to cycle your tank and it is really quiet.

I like quiet filters. I also really really really hate loud air pumps. those things annoy me to now end! Id get an air pump with feet..

Cheaply made filters and air pumps are well, cheap or rather inexpensive. You'd be best to invest in something that is a little more high end and have it work more efficiently and hold up better in the long run rather than have to replace it every year or so.

Usually when air pumps are loud like that, they are on their way out and will need to be replaced soon. Wink

I just just bought this one, and yea it was cheap. st*pid thing. I prefer those whisper ones. man oh man are they good
