black moor has a recuring pimple on head

My black moor has a pimple like protrusion on the side of her head right behind her gills.  This is the third time it has come back!  The first two times I used a Q-tip to remove it, once it had grown to some size.  It popped out easily enough like a big white head.  I've treated for fungus, bacteria and ick and it still comes back!  Any suggestion or ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Blacky is not having any problems otherwise.

is there any sort of thin thread? it might be a parasite. are there any more? is the fish breathing normal, the colouration of the gills normal? etc etc.


 Did you test you water?

Thanks so much for the reply.  She is breathing, eating and everything else seems normal.  I'm a fanatic about checking my water and doing partial water changes.  I'm not sure if I've actually seen any thin treads but the part that protrudes does look a little fuzzy on top.  When I have pushed this out with a Q-tip it just looks like a big white head.  It is the only one but it keeps coming back.

then thats definitely fungus... Hmmmm.. Also very very happy to hear you are obsessed about checking the water, You just made my day... alright.. Ima suggest Melafix for you, although T.C. Tetracycline does well aagainst fungus and other weird things.

and Melafix is like the fix all for everything, do little water changes.. What have you been treating your fishy with before?

I'm not really sure about the poking at it with a Q-Tip bit.  You may just be shoving it in/ spreading it around.  Better just to treat the water...

Thanks Nicole, I appreciate your input.  I have treated the water but it hasn't made a difference yet.  It seems to be something that starts growing just beneath her scales.  Once it grows for a little while it actually seems to protrude through the skin.  That's why I figured I could just pop it out and maybe it would go away.  I guess that was wishful thinking.  When I popped it out it left a small hole.  I continued to watch her daily and the hole would appear to go away but then next thing I know it would start growing back.

I'd treat with a salt tonic and Pimafix and Melafix. Pimafix is for fungus and Melafix for open wounds, both are natural remedies by API and do not destroy the beneficial bacteria.

I agree with Hanna but you should also be treating her with an oral antibiotic and when you "popped" that pimple and it left a hole you should have swabbed the hole with iodine.  That too me sounds like it is a cyct that keeps coming back so the bacteria/fungus isn't being killed all the way.
So: aquarium salt 1 TBS per every 5 gallons, Melafix and Pimafix and an oral antibiotic.
Keep us posted and let us know how this treatment is doing.

Thanks everyone for the advice.  I do use aquarium salt and anti-bacterial fish food.  I will keep you posted.  Thanks so much!

Thanks again everyone for the advice and support!  Blacky is doing fine right now.  The small hole has closed up and she's just swimming and eating and playing with Pumpkin (my ranchu).  There is still a small white spot (about the size of a pin head) where the big white head used to be.  I will have to keep an eye on it and hope it doesn't come back.
