Well I did a really d*mb thing.  I went and bought aquarium plants from my local grocery store and even tho I rinsed the plants off, the two tanks I planted them in now have ich.
My 20 gallon and my 75 gallon.
I noticed tonight that my pleco had spots so I looked closely and sure enough he has ich and one zebra danio.
Well I treated the tank with aquarium salt and rid ich +  but I didn't have enough for the 75 gallon tank and I live so far away from a pet shop that I decided to treat the 75 gallon with salt, melafix and pimafix and a heater.
The best I could do is order some more rid ich+ online.
I'll keep you updated on how things go.

I wonder if I had soaked the plants in salt water first if it wouldhave killed the ich.
I guess I really didn't think plants could transfer ich to a tank.
This is the first time this has happened.
All the fish and the plants looked real healthy at the store too.
What a bummer this is.....

New plants and the water from the fish store can carry ich. The plants should be placed in a quarantine tank like new fish for about a week or so to ensure no ich parasites can transfer over to your regular aquarium. You should keep the water at temperatures in the mid to upper 70s °F for a week  or about two weeks at room temperature so the ich parasites can die off. You don't have to add salt or medicine since some plants can't tolerate them.  Ich cannot survive without the presence of fish.  If you provide enough lighting and add a little plant nutrients to the quarantine tank, the plants should be ok during the quarantine period.

You can successfully get rid of ich from  the 75 gallon with heat alone (depending on how high your heater can go) or a combination of  heat and salt. Be sure to raise the temperature slowly at most 2°F per hour and watch for signs of stress from the fish. Ich doesn't  infect new fish at 85°F and stop reproducing at 86°F . The heat method will work for goldfish well also.

If you have live plants that can't tolerate heat or salt , you can move them to a different tank and quarantine them there.

Gee, Minde, this is a bummer... and I learned from this thread.
I never had it in mind that plants actually can carry ich. I always put them in the tank after rinsing with warm water.

Yeah you really should.   Who knows where the plants come from and what they've been exposed to.
