rydkin with eye injury
«

i have a new pretty tri colour rydkin - it has damaged one eye, which is now swollen, bruised and can be seen bleeding occasionally, i am writing this two days post injury and the fish is eating well, swimming well but trailing faeces. I have added a little sea salt to the tank, am feeding cooked peas and am monitoring the other fish for any aggression towards this fish, i have seen none. Should i try to separate the injured fish? Am concerned that moving it will cause more stress. Can anyone suggest any other treatments etc which may help.

Huh-this is interesting...
how and when did your fish sustain the injury? you sound as if you think it was another fish that did it, which is possible, but not likely...
does your tank environment have any sharp objects in it? glass rocks, sharp-bladed plastic plants, any kind of spiky tank decoration will do this, or if there are crabs living with your fish.(BAD IDEA:DO NOT KEEP CRABS WITH GOLDFISH)
Goldfish will trail feces-they eventually detach and sink to the bottom, so nothing to worry about there.
you should probably move the fish to a new tank just to keep it away from any ulterior stress from other fish (competing for food or just gold-fishing around-sometimes they bump into each other and it might cause the injury to worsen)
after you move it into its own tank, keep a hawk's eye on water chemistry and keep everything flat (7.0 pH, every other measurement at a indisputable 0) until the fish heals. you can try using Melafix to speed recovery, but watch out, because it is acidic and you will need to balance the tank water with an alkaline substance to keep it at 7.0.
hope your fish recovers quickly
