SADNESS-Two goldfish dead

Hey Folks!!
I went to the pet store to get a pair of goldfish.
He had like 10 pair of goldfish. I took a pair from him (at evevning). Their sizes were just little more than a inch.
So i put them in a small sized bowl. And added an air pump.
They both behaved normally, and gave them a small amount of feed in the evening.
Next morning one of the fish was not swimming and died by evening. I went to the store at that instant, i saw that he had only left with exact three goldfish, in which one was dead and other was just floating same like my fish did before dying. I asked him about the issue so he told me that add salt.
My other fish was fine till night and then in morning even she died. They both died the same way, first they float on a side and did not swim.
I did not overfeed them and the water was clean.
Is it my fault or the fish were not wel from the petstore.

Maybe in the meantime you already browsed this forum. We had this problem many times before... sadly...

NO fish, I realy mean NO fish except Anabantoids are to be kept in a bowl without filtration and aeration as they are not able to breath normal air ( except Anabantoids )

Even if your fish were tiny they poisoned themselves in this "small sized" bowl. Goldfish produce lots of waste and need a proper cycled tank before you can even think about adding fish.

It is not your fault, I still blame the pet store staff who sold you those fish to live in a small bowl.
But at the same time, please read through the posts on here and learn how to keep fish before you go ahead buying more and put them in a bowl.

Learn about cycling a tank, the nitrogen cycle. Learn about goldfish and their requirements like at least 10 gal per fish ( even if they are small, they grow fast ) Learn about the importance of testing the water for Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, pH and regular water changes.

Also please feel free to ask. Let us know what you know and what you don't know and we'll guide you Smiley

They probably died from ammonia poisoning since your bowl probably wasn't cycled.
If you want two new goldies, go buy yourself a 20 or 30 gallon tank with a good filter Smiley (You already have the air stone) You should also let the tank cycle for a few weeks before introducing the fish, OR, you could introduce one at a time and wait for the waste levels to stabilize. That is a bit more risky for the fish though, so you need to know what you're looking after and when to perform water changes.

I neva knew that the fish shouldn't be kept in a bowl
i thought that they are very small, so the bowl will be more than enough.
Next time i will surely get big tank.
I wanna add some different fish also in the big tank, can i do so.
i guess they might have died because of chlorine in water?
I know about the ammonia level and etc. but dont know what is tank CYCLE.

And now ill go through numbers of post to learn the exact way, but i am afraid that what if they die again.

You really should keep goldfish with their own kind since they are coldwater fish and most tropicals need a heater in their tank. :)Goldfish grow really big (12 inches or more) so that is another reason most tropicals would not do well with goldfish.  Big fish eat little fish! Wink 
Since you are just starting out, I would buy one tank and decide whether you want goldfish or tropicals .  If you choose tropicals then choose hearty species.  Zebra Danios, Gouramis, neon tetras, etc., and most livebearers are all great choices for a first tank.  Your petshop person can guide you on what is less sensitive to water quality changes.
Your new tank will need to cycle and you will want to get a water test kit, water condtioner, and beneficial bacteria.  Your pet store person can also help you buy an appropriate filtering system OR you may want to get an aquarium kit which comes with everything you need to get started with your hobby just you wil have to add the decorations and the fish! I second the statement made by Minde...NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER and I mean EVER mix other fishies with goldies. If you want something that resembles a bottom feeder get a black moor Smiley those are in the golden family. Get a good water conditioner like Amquel+ if you have a large portion of ammonia in your tap water (if you are on city water), which will get rid of everything horrible. Add Aquasafe (or a similar product if you are on well water) to remove chlorine and chlorimines. Water is important!!! Also, the rule of thumb for goldfish stocking is FOR EVERY GOLDFISH YOU SHOULD HAVE 10 GALLONS! Never ever keep a goldie in a tank less than that because like everybody says they poop alot and can poison themselves with their own waste. Ewww gross right? And They get huge over time. If you keep tabs on water quality and treat them nice then you shouldn't have to worry about any deaths. Test your water weekly at the local fish store or buy a test kit. But you may have a few die in the first few months, happends to all beginers. Don't give up! Keep a close eye on them to look for any sign of illness also. This is a fun hobby that anybody can become a pro at Smiley

Don't blame yourself for their passing, you simply didn't know enough at the time. Go on the internet and research info on goldies there is so much out there to learn! You can also find a breed that best suits your experience. I would suggest a fantail; they are very hardy and it's near impossible to kill them. Or you could try a comet goldfish (aka feeder fish) if you have a large tank. These fish are even hardier and you will be saving a life from certain death (that's why they're called feeder fish).

Remember that goldfish are no "decoration" for your house. They require time, love, care, and yes they WILL take a chunk out of your pocket book and you WILL have to change the water every week using a syphon hose. Goldfish, contrary to popular belief, are pets that have personalities you will grow to love.

Here is my bit to add towards Mindemaes and Goldiegirls comments:

First I emphasize what Minde and Goldiegirl already said. DO NOT keep goldfish and other fish together.
To start with goldfish get yourself a comet or a common healthy ones. ( If you buy feeder fish, they most time already carry diseases... you can do this later when you are moe experienced )
Before getting any fish make your mind up how many you like to have and get the proper tank size ( 10 gal per goldfish )
You need a good filter, also an airstone and a pump, nice round pea sized gravel, live plants and some decoration. But please avoid everything with sharp edges or holes where the fish can get stuck.
Remember Goldfish grow quick
Then you need a very good waterconditioner, beneficial bacteria, pH chemicals. Pimafix and Melafix as treatments ( just like we have our painkillers in our home pharmacy ) good variety of foods and a gravel cleaner to syphon on a regular basis.

Now you can google for "nitrogen cycle in aquariums" "setting up a fish tank" also browse this forum, it was explained many times.
