scratched fish?

my black moor has had two scratches down his sides for a week now. There is a large, SMOOTH cave, and one plastic plant, smooth pea gravel. There is another moor. They are in a !0, but are only juveniles and are going to go into a 20 at a year, they're about 6 mos now, two inches. Also, is this stunted or normal growth? Thanks!

Two scratches down his sides may be the organs fish have. All fish have one stripe on each side, it helps them feel the water current and locate other fish and items in the water. Unless you see any scales missing or any skin/blood being exposed, I wouldn't worry!

It sounds like normal growth Smiley What are you usually feeding them?
They would grow better and be healthier with a varied diet, such as 2-3 different kinds of staple pellets (I have 6... it just happened D8), some blood worms, tubifex, brine shrimp or gammarus a few times a week as a treat + vegetables such as shelled peas, zucchini, spinach, sea weed...

Nossie is right.  Those are the lateral lines.  They look a little darker, like someone made a little crease in the fish from his gills to his tail.  It worried me too at first, but then I read a book on goldfish that had a chapter all about how goldfish sense things.

Yeah, they get blood worms once a week and goldfish sinking pellets once a day. And, they get cucumber once every two weeks.
Just worried me because I've never seen them before.

Yes, the lateral lines help the fish control it's sense of balance. Very much like the ear canals in a human. They are present on every fish and are perfectly normal.  Wink

No, all goldfish grow at a different pace Smiley
This is decided by the amount of nutrition they got when they were fry. Some goldfish will grow really, really big fast, while others will need a few years to grow but will never reach the same size as the bigger ones.
It also depends on the water quality and food you're offering. Extra protein in the food will generally help them grow better.

Live foods: Blood worms, tubifex, krill, brine shrimp, gammarus etc Smiley They can be bought, fresh, frozen, in gel form or freeze-dried. Freeze-dried is the easiest to prepare, since all you need to do is soak the tubifex for a little while.
You should feed these foods to them a couple of times every week c:
