Goldfish with residue on its skin

My goldfish has been resting at the bottom of its tank only moving to feed. I have put it in a seperate tank and after one month it has started to swim again normally.

The problem now is that it has residue on its skin and mouth. Just like the residue that sits on a plant or ornament in the tank.

How are you meant to clean a goldfish?

Any suggestions or advise?

i would say take a soft toothbrush to it. I'm not sure if that's how you are supposed to do it, but I had the same thing happen to my little guy, and he's still with me. I'd talk with a pet stor or a vet just to be sure..

what do you mean...? if there is residue on the fish, don;t do anything to it or you might wipe off all the scales it has-since your fish has been ill, i wouldnt take any chances hurting it...

-facepalm- It was a suggestion. I never say im right, so i always suggest talking to a professional.. or at least someone else who knows what they're doing. I dont think the slimy residue is anything harmful, i mean, it could just be algae growth on the fish... Who knows?

Algae growing on a fish!?!  If algae is growing on any fish I would expect it's been dead for quite a long while.

Can you describe the residue?  Does it have a color, or does it look like excess slime coat?  What type of water conditioner do you use?
