Try alternating sides when feeding.
Plus any food that falls into the gravel they will contantly pick there hoping to find a few crumbs.

LOL, Minde had good suggestions and I agree with them,  Also, maybe if you changed some of the decorations around, the fishies might go and investigate. But feeding is probably the actual reason. 

Here is an update to my post. I was feeding my babies on different ends of the tank and they would get the food and then return back to their little corner. today, being so board from my no work day, thanks to the snow!, I did a 50% water change and added an additional filter (small, suitable for a 15 gallon) and today all of a sudden, they're swimming all over the place. They still go back to their corner, but it's so nice to see them actually  utilizing the full 60 gallons and not just a small corner.

On another note, I'm really wanting another one, but I promised myself I would wait until March. this is going to be a very long 2 months. 

My goldfish do the same thing so its nothing to worry about. They like to hang out on the side that i feed them on to! Switching sides really does work!
