sick goldfish
« on: February 22, 2009, 05:27:56 PM »

I had 4 comet goldfish in a 40L tank? They have been fine for the past 3 months, but the smaller one has been getting bullied the past 2 days. I took this one out of the tank and put him in a tank by himself. His fins are all clamped, he was eating yesterday but is not today. I have added aquarium salts, did 50% water change yesterday and about 25% today. Going to bump the heat up a couple degrees. Water also tested fine and pH was fine. Is there anything i can do for this little guy?

Seems like you are doing the correct thing by separating the fish being bullied  from the others. Goldfish sometimes will clamp their fins when they are stressed out so being constantly harassed by the other goldfish will definitely stress it.

I would continue with the progressive salt treatment like you're doing for about 10 days to see if the fish shows any improvement. The salt treatment should help with any type of infection the fish has. Since you are keeping the water clean also that should not be a factor. If you have a thermometer, try to maintain to maintain the water temperature at constant 72 degrees fahrenheit or so. The warmer water will definitely help to boost its immune system.

I think you are probably doing all you can for the fish so hopefully the little guy will make it.

have a black moor that we just got from wal mart last night and put him in the tank with the others and now he has a white ring around his mouth it looks like skin sloughing off or something. The tank has been treated for ick is it stress or ick or something else? Don't want him to die. He is in with feeder starter/goldfish and a pleco. 5 gallon tank just a small one but still want to take good care of them.
