My pond fish has developed a large swelling on the right side of its body and is moving slowly, any help?

Could be a tumor, could be an internal infection caused by parasites or bacteria. I'd say your best chances of saving him would be through injections of antibiotics, meaning that you should take him to a vet.
But to be sure, you could try posting a pic of it.

Every illness is caused by poor water quality which stresses the fish. Stress makes them more prone to infections.
If it is a tumour it ca be a genetic reason though.
Please test the water quality asap, you may find the reason in there.
