sick lionhead

my lionhead has been swimming upside down constantly for the last few days  and spends lots of time on the bottom

help!!!

Sounds like swim bladder trouble.
Try feeding him frozen peas with the skin taken off.
Some people swear by a salt bath treatment.
There is some medicated food out there, you could try.
If you think he may be constipated you could try getting him to eat a piece of epsom salts, or the peas or some worms.  Worms seem to act as a laxative with my fish.

what kind of pellet do you fed to your lion head?

sinking? or floating? if floating that is the main reason of swim bladder..

Actually, calaguas, the kind of food you feed them, whether sinking or floating, is not a main factor with swim bladder. In other words, neither sinking nor floating is better than the other. What I would suggest is feeding them a varied diet: flakes in the morning and pellets in the evening. maybe give them cucumber as a snack or a treat. A diet lacking in nutrients is often the reason for swim bladder. (these arent my own ideas.. i got them from an article somewhere I'm sure... Ill find it... probably aquatic community)

There are pellets who CAN make your fish float, but that is usually low-quality foods and should NOT be fed to goldfish if you would notice something like it.
Swim bladder problems can also be caused by bacterial infections. But also if your fish spends lots of time by the surface swallowing air when trying to eat flakes. And therefore, you should feed them something easier to catch Wink But of course, there is specialized goldfish food in flake form, and so, this is also a suitable staple diet.

exactly. floating pellets / flakes are just as good as sinking ones. Low grade food doesnt have the nutrients for fish. Smiley

no... sinking is better than floating... just think if your goldfish is always spent there time looking for food in the surface off your tank they swallow air that can be cause of swim bladder.. and sinking pellet is containing of high protein than floating..

second if your water is polluted and there is no enough 02 supply your goldfish will also stay in the surface of your thank and swallow air also..

Lets leave it to personal preference. You like sinking pellets, I despise sinking pellets because they.. well they sink, and I cant remove them as easily.
