It seems my fish are always doing something intelligent/cute which I did not ever expect to see.
I've been cooking chocolate brownies, and now my entire apartment smells like them, which is very nice. Apparantly, the fish seem to think so, too, because since the brownie smell got strong, they started doing their "yum yum feed us please!" dance. I can certainly believe that they can "taste" the smell (can they?) at the surface. I keep telling them that they're not going to get any brownies, but they don't listen, as usual.
Has this happened to anyone else?

I always eat in front of my fishes, and generally as a rule if I have somethign I think they can eat, I'll cut off just a teeny bit of the food I have. Mostly its been just carrots, cause Tiger (and now Sonorus) likes them. May try some softened apple or orange, to get some vitamins in their diet. Of course I feed them peas twice a week, which Sonorus wont touch. lol

Fish should be able to smell it with their noses, just like any animal
So maybe they do want a little bite of your brownies (: How cute!

As you know our Humphrey and Hepsiba are always the side of the tank where we are. Being in the kitchen they seem to comment on what I am preparing to eat, like "those hot croissant with cheese look yummy" or " how does baguette with garlic, camembert and honey taste" or " that stew with PEAS looks nice, can we have some?"
But the best thing I noticed yesterday was that they wiggled in one corner of the tank facing towards the bathroom where they just could see me blowdrying my hair. This was at least 4 m away. Anyway I started to wave back at them and the more I did it, the more they wiggled their whole body.
Humphrey swam away a few times thinking "... womens stuff..." but he returned to check because Hepsiba just stayed there wiggel, wiggel, wiggel, LOL

i must say my fish are just so funny at times. my tank is in my room so when i get up in the morning their light is off so as soon as i push back the covers all of them dive to the surface as if to say "foooooooood" haha and the best bit is, when im sitting and getting ready for work in front of the mirror i can see them in the reflection and as soon as i turn around they all start going mental and wiggling loads! gota love 'em!

Yes, ours did something funny again!
My husband came back from shopping, and the fishies were swimming after him as he walked past the tank, eyeing his purchase enviously. They obviously wanted what he was holding, and wanted it bad!
What was this mystery item?
Food?
A plant?
No...a pair of socks!!!
Yeah, that's about the last thing they need...

Maybe they got cold fins and wanted sth to keep them warm
Ours are eyeing every bag I put on the kitchen bench or every food plate or cup or glass with wine or beer.
I let them look at it, hold it up to the tank and they eye, eye, eye

I have my fish in a smaller room with the washing machine at home for now, and that's a big pain for me... I NEED to be able to snuggle with my fish anytime, and having them next to the couch is simply... needed :'c
I love when they stare at everything I do, and when I can respond somehow and just talk to them c: Besides, I'm kinda' shy to snuggle with my fish in front of my parents since I am used to talk to them fish in English xD

When we came home today one of the Elodea was completely dug out, floating on the top... and it still is...
I put a cube of bloodworms in, they just ignored it and started to play with each other.
And I called them and whistled to show them their new food. Anyway, now after about 30 min no visible bloodworm.
They are in their wiggle and destroy and play mood today, bloodworms seemed to be secondary,

awe man. Im so worried if I get plants Tiger will eat them all! I see him trying to nibble the fake plants!!! lol and Sonorus is a bit of a digger, she likes to move the rocks around. Theyre gonna work together to make me buy more plants.... maybe theyre trying to tell us something? maybe "I dont like this plant, get a prettier one?"

They do! We have two nibbled down to nubs, and one that they chew at all the time. Spot perfers the stems, Sunshine digs up the roots, and Izzy and Stripe eat the leaves (and the bits of food that fall on them!).

well so far they are leaving it alone, its thriving nicely, no nibbling, no uprooting, and yea. Fed them tubeifex worms, and then mixed foods together to make more food for them

Kat: They'll totally eat it once they get taste for it
I had my hopes about one of my smaller plants but... after two months and my fish were bigger and more used to the environment, there was nothing left but the stems and some small floating pieces of leaves xD

well I noticed Tiger 'sniffing' and Sonorus pokes at the roots once in a while, but no floating pieces, no nibble marks. just a plant, plain and simple. and for the most part they leave it alone:)

There is one plant we get at the pet store, I have no idea what it is really called, but we call it "fish-nip". It's thin, light green, and kind of ferny-looking. As soon as we get it out of the tube and plant it in the gravel, they've pulled it up and are munching. Five minutes later, at least one plant is stripped bare and there are leaves floating everywhere. None of those plants lasts more than three days, so we just give it to them as an entertaining snack.

Possibly it IS hornworth. It was the first plant I had for ours in the small 5 l tank. When we moved them into the 34 l there was only small pieces left and they nibbled it away in a few days
