Smoking? And black spot on lung?

Fish don't have lungs, in the first place. Do you mean that the spot is on his right side simply? Black spots are usually a sign of ammonia poisoning so... what size tank do you keep the fish in? And what kind of filtration?

The fish will most likely die in such a small environment. Buy him a 10 gallon if you intend to keep for longer than two months.
Goldfish are very messy fish, and they easily grow over 10 inches, so you can quite easily figure out that a 1.5 gallon isn't by far enough for a goldfish. The absolute minimum size of a tank for a goldfish is 10 gallons and 20 for bigger varieties (then you add another 10 gallons per fish). Anything smaller, and the fish will gradually poison itself in the ammonia it excretes.

A filter for a goldfish tank should be rated for a tank at least twice the size, so if you have a 10 gal tank, think that you need a filter worthy of a 20 gallon. Smaller filters would get clogged with dirt very fast, and it wouldn't be able to deal with all the waste the fish creates.

But if I was you, I'd buy myself a test kit for pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Test the water daily, and do small water changes whenever the ammonia levels get too high. It should say on the test what's acceptable Wink Change no more than 10% of the water at a time! While you'd do this, be on the look out for a bigger tank for the fish Smiley Nothing smaller than a 10 gallon! Which are usually very cheap anyway d:

Thank you for the insight..... i will be sure to buy a test kit and be on the lookout for a bigger tank... I might just take this tank that i bought yesterday back to the Pet store and tell them the filters are not big enough for my fish?Huh?

What kind of goldfish is it? A streamline shaped like Common, Comet or Shubunkin? Then I recommend at least a 20 gallon tank as they grow fast and are quick swimmers.
Or is it a slow swimmer, an egg shaped one like Oranda, Moor, Ryukin, etc?

Maybe you keep the small tank as a hospital tank in case you need to quarantine fish.

Cyndig: Anywhere! There should be a "new thread" option in every section of the forum Smiley

Momma: Don't bother even asking about the size of tanks/filters in the pet shop, most shops sell bowls to keep goldfish in, which should be forbidden as it slowly kills the fish. So just go there, get yourself a 10-20 gallon tank, and a good filter to boot!

Hanna: Thank you! Cheesy I barely noticed myself!
