Snail problem: please help
«

I recently bought a new apple snail she never fully comes out of her shell she doesn't move very far and hugs the waterline. If she goes down near the bottom of the tank she just floats straight back up to the top again. Is there something wrong with her and if there is what can I do to help her?

Ammonia 0.25, nitrate 10, nitrite 0! Don't know about the temperature though. She has been like this since I got her, there are 2 other apple snails in there with her and they are fine.

Sounds like you should change some water (I'd take half) and add some beneficial bacteria. You want the ammonia to be 0 at all times!

Vicloz it looks like your snail has some air caught in its shell.
I don't know how to take the air out.

I thought that fantailer. I just wish I knew how to get rid of it. Maybe she needs to do it herself. I did a water change last night, I will do another one tonight Nossie.

I asked on an apple snail forum about removing air from her shell and they said to do that I had to rotate her under the water. Well it didnt work so I asked at the shop I got her from and they said it sounded like the start of a swim bladder problem and to try and get her to eat some bloodworms. Easier said than done.

Apple Snails do NOT have swim bladders. Another fine example of rot from LFS staff
