Butterfly plec feeding trouble!
«

I am having some trouble with my one of my butterfly plecs! He is only small and hasn't grown much since I got him (the other one I got at the same time is now huge in comparison) until recently he was in my main tank with my other plec (Klaus), Flash and Merle, they are all much larger than him and whenever I put food in for him (plecostomus tablets or algea wafers) the other three bullied him off!
I have now put him in another tank where he has no-one to contend with for food but he seems to scared to go bear his food! Is there anything to do? I am getting really worried that he isn't getting enough food!

From what I know, most plecos eat during the night, so you could always try feeding them when lights are out
Also, I'd give them a few slices of squash, maybe 2-3 so that all the fish has something to nibble on

Does the tank you moved him to have lots of hiding places? It could be that his slightly stressed from being moved?

Yeah I made sure their was hiding places! He is used to the light but he is also used to being bullied away! I just feel sorry for the little guy! Thought being in a tank where he was the second biggest instead ofthe smallest might help! I even have his favourite hiding place on the tank! I give them all cucumber, spinach and lettuce! Plus their own food! I have a plan for them they are fed small amounts twice a day! Aswell as the greens the plecs have their plecostomus tablets and algea wafers which they all enjoy. The fish have two brands of flakes, pellets, dried daphnia, dried bloodworms and tetrafreshdelica brine shrimp. Not all at the same time obviously. Then there are the plants and with plecs eating algea I always let some build up in the tank but not too much!

Okay? Just wait and let the fish grow then, I guess?

I wasn't having a go Nossie if you think I was. I was just giving everyone all the information of what I do for them all. Thought you could all maybe tell me if I was doing something wrong, if there was something else I could do for them and what I could do to resolve my problem.

If the water quality is fine, it could be the time of day? Perhaps try feeding in the evening or leaving some courgette in the tank over night near his favourite hiding spot?

Feed it Broccoli right before the lights go out. The fish eat the leaves while the lights are on and when the goldfish fall asleep the pleco sucks on the broccoli and gets food. You may have to keep it in longer but it worked for my pleco.
