Hi all,
As some of you may know, I recently got a new baby crowned Pearlscale and had him in with my platyies. They were doing fine, getting along great, but wondering if the baby would be happier with his own kind I placed him in with my two Oranda's. I watched all day yesterday, everything seemed to be going good, everyone getting along. I posted a little video of all of them and this morning they were still getting along great. Well, later this evening I was talking on the phone and started looking at Tangerine (my orange goldfish) and noticed she was having some problems moving her front left fin. After watching a little bit longer, the baby started trying to grab Tangerines fin so I'm guessing this is how it got hurt, so back in with the platyies he goes. I just don't want him doing any more damage to the bigger goldfish and hope Tangerines fin will be ok. This little one has a lot of energy, and I feel bad that it can't be with it's own kind, but for now, it's back to platyies ville.

I would seperate the baby pearlscale to by itself for a week or so and since goldfish are social it will be depressed to be by itself and usually when the fish is back with all the others it doesn't pick on the fish.

I had the same problem with my biggest shubunkin today, put it with the older fish went to the toilet and when i came back it had been fin  nipping and had damaged 2 of the fins on 2 of my other shubnkins  so had to remove it, put him back in a few days and see if he has stopped attacking if it does not its of back to the pet shop as there will be non of that in the house.

Do you have a plastic basket of some kind? For example the empty bottom of a package of grapes? Wink You could tie or tape that to the corner of the goldfish tank and separate the little one in there whenever he gets too fierce.
I had Horus like that when he was cranky, and later I separated one of the guys when he was chasing Freya around too much during breeding. It seemed to help pretty well! Cheesy

It's sort of ironic how before we were concerned if the older ones would eat all his food and bully him.
Never did I think it would be the other way around? Shocked

I may try putting him back in there again later, but want to give Tangerine a chance to heal and start using that fin a little more. She uses it, but very sparingly and I don't want her to have it injured again. Thank you all for your nice comments and concerns. I guess sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't   Sad
