How is everybody doing?

Things are going along just fine here. I'll give  a few updates on various tanks...The 37 gallon is covered in neon green algea, I scrub it away and the next day it comes back. At least it's better than the yucky brown algea. I'm going to borrow an idea from Dianna Walstead's books and add more plants into the tank to see if they will use up more of the nutrients and thus starve the algea down a little. So far in that tank we have Sebastian, and his friends the minnows who are now over 21/2 inches in length and looking much plumper, and one large golden apple snail. Definitely a different kind than our little brigs snails. So Pineapple the snail leaves the plants alone...for now, I hope.
The ten gallon tank is home to 4 white cloud minnows and 3 super tiny feeder guppies. The feeder guppies are less than an inch long and super cute. (I love tiny fish.) The two briggs snails are also in this tank, Inka and Maya. May has been growing larger and Inka has stayed the same. I think both are females as we have never seen an egg case yet. Also this tank has the bulk of the amazonian frogbite, two marimo balls and a baby ball and a couple of tiny java fern babies I super glued onto a rock. I managed to change the lights a little and the frogbite has increased nicely for me.

Our last experiment is really neat. I wrote about the Naturally Planted tanks and how we are trying it out with a fish bowl. Well, that is working really well. The bowl has duckweed, and some frogbite, and micro swords and something else which kind of melted a little. We had a lot of hair algea at one point  so I did some water changes and it has stopped growing. The water is pretty clear, with a slight yellow look to it because I put an oak leaf in there. Some of the tannins leach into the water. The really amazing thing is that the duckweed and frogbite must really like the bowl. Their roots have grown immensely, the frogbite roots reach all the way to the bottom of the bowl. Very different than the frogbites in the ten gallon who have hardly  any roots at all. I started out with just two frogbite pieces and now have 5 plants.
I'm really thinking about shrimp from the bowl...but I don't know yet. I have two more anubias coming in the mail for the 37 gallon and a set of nerite snails.

I have 5 nerite snails coming from ebay for the 37 gallon. Two of them have horns...how bad are these with goldfish?

Hmmm I'm not too sure about shrimp in a bowl, I imagine it depends on the shrimp breed you want to keep and their needs.
I considered shrimp in my snail tank, which is 21 litres and I believe they would be fine in there.

I don't know a huge amount about shrimp as I decided not to bother with them for now (Lucky is enough work at the moment with this blasted ammonia), but I do know that they need to have very good water quality as well as a soft filter, they don't like currents very much and they may also need a heater (I can't remember if they did or didn't). I considered the idea of a sponge filter, but I'll admit I didn't do very much research, so I'm afraid I can't help you much there.

When you say Brigg snails, do you mean Apple snails? I have never heard of Brigg snails.
If the Nerites have spikes, then they are probably Horned Nerite snails, not too sure on the compatibility though!

As for me, I've been having a battle with ammonia (again) and being rather surprised at how much algae and elodea can grow! The Elodea I brought has grown so much, it's impossible for Lucky to eat it all!
So currently she has a feast everyday of nibbling on elodea and munching away at the algae

I think mystery snails and apple snails are the same thing?

I'm sure Sebastian will love a new goldfish friend in his 37 gallon tank Good luck with the quarantine!

I saw somewhere that mystery snails were apple snails but don't grow as big.
