When I walk into the room where the fish tank is and start talking, all my goldfish start a swimming frenzy.  They can be totally quiet and when they hear me they all swim to the surface and start begging for me to come over and give them food!  "Feed Me! Feed Me!" they seem to be saying.  It only happens when I walk in the room and start talking.  If anyone else is here and walks in the room and starts talking they totally ignore them and go about their normal fishy business.  I just think it's kind of funny and people are amazed that my goldfish recognize my voice.

I don't know but I think maybe fish are more intelligent than we think!  Just because they don't speak our language doesn't mean that they don't want to try and communicate with us somehow.

awwwww... ^^ I think I'm gonna try and make my next fish dance.. I own a flute and am a proficient player. You thinkn it'd respond to music?

Yea apparently just watching fish is supposed to lower blood pressure and keep you calmer. I think it works, as long as your fish arent doing something messeed up.

No, mine do that too (: Although, it's usually my fiance playing with them this way. He's moving his fingers a few inches from the glass and my fishies follow! Except for the calico one, he's too hardcore to play d:
I do it too occasionally while talking to them and cuddling (: But if you meant chasing finger as in, putting it into the tank, I'd rather avoid it d: (Although, my mom's big goldfish used to chew my fingertips and it tickled all the way down to my toes!)

My fishies love that, too.  I do this thing called "tickle the fish" where I move my finger in a tickling motion against the glass right over the fish.  They love it!  They wiggle happily when I do it, like they're actually being tickled.

Some people will put fish in a newly set up tank after 24 hours but it is less stressful to the fish if you wait until the beneficial bacterial has had a chance to establish in the new tank and the nitrogen cycle completes.  You can speed this cycle up by jump starting with beneficial bacteria, adding it directly to the tank, gravel bed and filter.  I also use, water and gravel and sometimes even filter media from an established tank, when starting up a new tank.  Usually after two weeks or sometimes more, there is enough bacteria established for it to convert the large amount of ammonia into nitrites.
Once I see zero ammonia and zero nitrites and a bit of nitrates starting to appear on tests I go ahead and add a couple of small fish or 1 larger one and then keep checking the water to make sure none of the ammonia or nitrites start to spike.
If you add fish too soon after setting up a new tank you have a higher chance of losing them to "new tank syndrome" or weaking them to the point where they get ill from some other illness.
