Hi Minde, yes that is where I got the meds. I have been feeding the Jungle brand antibiotic food for the entire time of treatment. I am using Tetra Fungus Guard and it contains nitrofurazone and furizolidone too as well the potassium dichromate. Salt is already in the tank  Undecided water is perfect too so I am at a loss...perhaps I will do a second dose?

I just tucked him in lights out for 30 min but will get one in the morning. He is otherwise perfect, this ragged issue has been ongoing since the late summer and when I first posted his holes in the tail. It is much the same still if that means anything  Undecided

Yeah, but we thought that was due to the fact you had water quality issues.  Now I am not so sure.  If he's still having problems and your water quality is good then I would lean toward a bacterial infection.

I am not sure if the marks turned out to be ammonia burns or not. But I just wanted to add that my pearlscale Bubbles has one black mark on his tail similar to Jillyfish's which is just a part of his natural colouring as it has been there for 6 months now and since I have had him he has always lived in pristine water conditions.
So if its doesn't disappear then it could be just her markings Smiley

I tend to agree Minde, it will be the next line of action. I am wondering if I should try another round of the current treatment or set up for the other. Since he is already eating the medicated food this is good and he likes it too! To be honest I think Tailer would eat the arse out of a dead skunk if he had the chance  Lips sealed LMAO!

Abbie I have been wondering this too but it has just been a week with her here so I keep adding the Melafix and Stability each day and keep my eyes on her she's so sweet *melting Wink

Hanna thankies you know he has grown so much in the new tank that he is now using my little finger as a dummie too  Grin

I would keep him on the medicated food but switch the tank water treatment.
You can feed that food while treating with something else. 
If you can get a good picture of his fins that are ragged or have the "spot", it would be easier for me to see what exactly it is?
How is the whiteness on his head? Did that disappear now?
I'm thinking maybe you should try Rid-Ich + by Kordon.  It has formalin in it which will treat fungus plus any parasites.
It won't hurt the biological filtration.  You add 1 tsp per 10 gallons of water and then treat once every 24 hours after a 25% water change.  I wouldn't use anymore salt in the tank while treating and make sure to take any carbon out of your filtration before
treating.  You can get this at Petsmart too. Smiley

Minde we must be connected somehow in thought as this is what I'm heading out the door for now, will post back in a little while. Water has been changed added stability prime stress coat and tank gravel siphoned so I'm ready for plan B  Wink

About plan B...went to Walmart, PetValue and neither had this product. Have asked a friend who manages a Petsmart here in the west end to see if they have it. Having another good look at the spot on his fin and it does look slightly improved. If it were Ich wouldn't he be having many spots all over his body? The tail with the small fray in it looks clean, no white colouration on the edge of it so maybe it will just take time to heal. Will continue with the medicated food for now and see how he looks tomorrow.

Well if there is improvement then maybe you want to do another course of treatment?
Usually you treat with that medication 4 days do a 25% water change then re-treat for 4 more. Smiley
