This time, I wouldn't be treating with anything, actually. I think the best way to help Tailer now is to keep feeding him the medicated food for a few days more, and just take care of the water quality, he should get better already by that I feel like the reason why he's showing all these symptoms after eachother might be because of the medication tampering with the water. Just change water and keep track of the parameters, you could add some Melafix if you have any Take out maybe half of the water each time you notice a rise in ammonia, and add beneficial bacteria each time! If you're not already doing that, you could try dosing the bio filter-booster for the whole tank and not only the water you add. (I haven't used that many different brands, some are meant to be dosed only for the new water, some is meant to be used once a week for the whole system etc...) I'm sure he'll be just fine, April!!

April, With ammonia showing up I can only stress to you not to feed Mr. tailer anything for 24 hours and then feed only once a day or once every other day for the next few days until the ammonia is zero. I would also, do a 50% water change, vacuum the waste up as you are doing it, to remove any excess food and waste. Add to your filter, ammonia absorbing ZEOLITE chips...you can get those at petsmart. use 1/2 cup per every 10 gallons of water. Increase aeration....DO NOT add any salt to the tank. add beneficial bacteria also to your filter media, double the dose. I would also, like Nossie says keep on feeding the medicated antibiotic food. I'm sure he'll be ok....since you are so good about cheking the water parameters often.

April, Go to petsmart and get teratcycline....Maryacin II by Mardel and add that to the tank. Did you perform a water change? He won't die, he is having trouble breathing because of the ammonia level this is irritating his gills. April please don't give up on him. Please go get zeolite, it will absorb the ammonia and the oxytetracycline will get rid of the bloody streaks. Keep feeding the medicated food tho. I'm so sorry about this..

If you decide to treat with tetracycline I have heard you should not use any other treatment while using it, it is very strong stuff and can actually make your fish look a bit sick. Also you need to follow the advice I was given on how to treat it: *No lights during treatment! *Every day you need to do a 25% water change and re-treat the whole tank with the tetracycline *Treat for seven days even if it has gone, if there is improvement but it has not totally gone, you can continue for a few more days *Remember like with all medication if you don't see improvement after a few days, stop using it. I imagine you can keep up with the medicated food but I personally wouldn't be using the fungus guard while using tetracycline. Sunshine was also acting like this before I got the medication right, all night she would just sit on the bottom of her tank (she normally sleeps in the middle of her tank) and she often had clamped fins. But now look at her (even though you can't see her ) she is doing great even though it took me awhile to get the medication right. It was alot of work but totally worth it. She still has some traces of fin rot which I believe may never heal, but is not getting any worse. Add beneficial bacteria also while treating it, I am still adding every day since I finished treatment though today is the last day, as tetracycline while kill off your good bacteria. With adding the beneficial bacteria, I have seen no traces of ammonia or nitrites though I am still waiting for the nitrates to show up. When changing medications it is also a good idea to add carbon to the filter and wait 24 hours, I did not do that between changing from the tri-sulpha tablets and tetracycline so I don't think it is necessary especially when your fish is this sick, you want to get the medication right. Please just act on the key points of treating with tetracycline Let us know how Mr. Tailer is doing, it took about a day and a half for me to see improvement but after that is was pretty rapid so you'll know if it is working or not.

April: Is there a store that sell Amquel Plus in your area? Here's an info about it: ( Link is not visible to guests. Please register to view.)
I've used this before and once in a while for emergency situations with great results.
