Yes they work very well with fresh water tanks. Back when I had my breeding room the XL-model got a good work out. I had a D1 model also years before that and it done a fine job on display and show tanks. They will help bring algae, ick, and cloudy water under control in a few hours.

So far as the lights I am selling the outfit you see on the tank. My son in law is having me three rings of LED lights made up for the 180gal tank. I'll take pictures and post when I get them.

Cheers, Charlie... Smiley

Ahhh I see, I see Smiley

I have a UV light on my filter should I need to combat any ick or algae, but generally I just let algae grow anyway, Lucky snacks on it during the day Smiley

I am not going to use the lights that they had on there as they generate to much heat. I have another son in law making me some LED lights. They will be 2foot strips of white and blue with a three way switch day, night, and off.  Grin

LED strips sound good Cheesy Another option to keep in mind is that if a tank is in a well lit room, you may not even need lights at all -this of course depends on the fish and the plants Smiley

My goldfish Lucky doesn't have any lights on her tank and she does just fine with natural day light Smiley
Although with the winter and it being darker/colder I have noticed a significant depletion in my elodea! Lucky is no doubt using it as a salad bar.... so be prepared to need to replace plants with goldfish Cheesy

Well he brought the LED's over for a test run and took them back to modifiy the housing a little. My grand daughter forgot my camara over at her other grand parents house so I have no pitures... Roll Eyes

Yes pufferman I could get a fan but I have scraped that idea as I just don't like them big heavy lights.

Skwishee my tank is in a dark part of the room and will need a little help from lights to see the fish. I am using a pole lamp right now just to see them... Grin

Ah that's understandable, my fish tank is next to a window and as I have white curtains (which are usually drawn to stop temperature fluctuations and/or an algae explosion) it is pretty bright in here, so I've never bothered with lights Smiley

Finally got my camara back from the Grand Daughter Grin Here's a couple of pictures with the two LED's test strip on each end. He's making another for the middle and I can plug them in any way I want them after he's done.

This gives you some idea of what I have here Skwishee .. It's not going to be the best looking but I do hope to have a good home for all the mutts. Me and the wife enjoy them and that's all that counts.. Grin

They'll be chunky and round before you know it  Cheesy

I like the layout of your tank too, it's nice and simple Smiley Lots of space for swimming!
Have they got any names yet?

No names for any one fish and we call them the "Mutts" as they all came from the local fish shop. That's about equal to the local pound for dogs. There's eight total in there and there will be no more added. I also have a dozen Panda Cats in there just because I like them also. Both tanks are staying between 72 & 74 degrees so I see no need of heaters or chillers.

I'll be real happy when we get the LED's on the big tank. I just saw them real good for the first time the other day. Wink After watching them real close for awhile I think that 4 are in great shape, 1 in good shape, and 3 in fair shape. They all eat well so maybe the others will catch up in due time.

Cheers, Charlie... Smiley
