Blue Oranda Question
«

I just bought a small (1 inch body) blue oranda from Petco... or so they said. It's head and most of its body are the same general color as a greenish chocolate oranda - but the base of its tail is a silvery nickel color and its fins have a powder blue tinge to them. The other five all had some variation of this mixed color pattern - some more nickel than others. Will this fish change color and become predominantly nickel colored like the base of its tail...or did Petco mislead me? What should a blue oranda look like?
Thanks for your help.

It may change colors as it grows. I have a supposedly Black Moor that was solid black when I bought it at about the same size as your Oranda. He is now about 4 inches long and has turned almost completely gold. The only remaining black is on his dorsel fin.

The goldfish change color, itīs very common. Once time i had one just like yours, my fish grow and its final colors are white and orange.
The color change depends of multiple factors like genetic, food, and ilumination. This kind of fishes are a "surprise"

I never had a colour-changing fish before. I think it may have something to do with lighting or even genetic background. Ive heard of fish changing colour, but i dont think its all too common. It may be something in the water too..

If your fish is only 1 inch then I would suspect that it is still very young and may still change colors.
