According to earlier posts on this tread I was wondering why there was a discussion about marine fish, while we were talking about goldfish...

As I mentioned in another tread, I had probs with the internet...

But all is explainded...

Short emphasis: I'd NEVER keep a tank next to the window: reasons already mentioned by other members... Smiley

I think that price for that tank is a little steep.
I agree with Jordan that you can possibly get a better price for one and if you already have a 20 gallon why not look for something bigger? Wink
I got my 30 gallon with the stand for $50.
All my tanks I bought from personal sales not from retail, but 2 were a gift someone received and didn't want and they still were new in the box!!!! Smiley
So there are great deals out there, you just have to be patient and plan to look at more than one and you'll find the set-up that is right for you!! Cheesy

I bought my 83 gallon (317 liters) for 350, along with that was light, bulbs, heater, filter, and 50kg of good quality gravel Cheesy (The bulbs alone are 50, the gravel is about 75... so I think I got a pretty good deal Cheesy)

But I do agree with Minde, that it might be better if you'll look for something bigger while you're at it Smiley

remember even is the tank looks bad it can be fixed easy the bad looking tanks are less. i have seen a leaky 250 gallon go for 150$ and the person spend about 30$ and 3 or 4 hours of work (putting sealer on) now it works perfect no leaks. and is a sweet tank a 250 gallon tank would be near 1000$ around here

BUT, NEVER BUY A TANK WITH CRACKS IN THE CORNERS/SIDES.

It's incredibly important, especially on bigger second-hand tanks that you look closely for cracks in the glass or faults in the sealant, because this might lead to bigger leaks, cracks AND problems later when the tank is filled. It's meant to support a huge amount of water, and if there's a crack in the glass, well... you do the maths! It could end up with a smaller disaster if the tank starts cracking on you.

I knu! o__o if it'd ever happen to my babies I'd be crying constantly while trying to save them when they're fluttering on the floor after falling our of a cracked and blown up tank :'c It'd be such a pain after spending money on the tank, being happy about it and finally introducing the fish only to have it leaking... bleh.

i agree losing our kids would be bad. my fish guy ( he live just down the road) will take your fish in if there is a problem like this until u can fix it. but u have to be a regular costumer. i think u have to buy some food though. he has about 700 - 1000 gallons of fresh and salt water tanks in his shed ( it looks sweet in there)

most fish guys around here will do this to or a friend that has a tank will do the same.
always make sure u have a backup plan in-case of this

most glass tanks WILL  leak at some point. it might take 25 year though Cry

my used tank leaked at about the 18 year mark now there is so much sealant on it i dont think it will again it is about 25 years old now

(the last owner was my brother in law thats how i know) tanks can be fixed even if there is a crack in the glass. but dont buy one that has a crack in. it leaks in the seal can be fixed to but DONT buy one like this unless u know how to fix it and it is really cheap or free.

Yes, when I fell off the step ladder on my rear I almost took Humpsis and Hepsis tank with me. It was right at the edge of the benchtop. I really was shaking, not because I fell down, but because of our fishies. I had a brandy after this.  Shocked

Grin ROFLMAO, Minde.... eventually we'll have our little community tank with a few Tetras, one Siamese Fighter, and a couple of catfish, I won't be able either...would be laying on the bed with one foot on the floor trying to brake as the bed would spin around, LOL ... all fish would need to share ONE glass, the most, two, LOL...

Yeah Kat, we're a funny crazy bunch on here.... ROFLMAO  Grin

LOL! Hanna!  You are so funny!  Haha we are a crazy bunch here!
You will love having a tropical tank too.  Tropicals are just so different from goldfish!
Research the catfish tho, cuz some grow very big and become preditors to the other fish!  Shocked
This fish hobby is so addicting!! Cheesy

Hanna,
You are so lucky to have a hubby that shares your fish keeping passion with you! Wink
Let me tell you about when we first got married.  My husband wanted an aquarium really bad and had to talk me into it!  So we went down to the local fish shop and bought aquarium, stand, filter and everything.  Two weeks later he picked out the fish.
Some of these and some of that...oh it was a beautiful tank with wonderful fish. Cheesy  UNTIL it was water changing time...LOL!
My husband sucked on the end of the water changing hose and got a mouthful of fish water and that was it.....he wanted nothing to do with fish or aquarium keeping ever again!!!LOL!  So....they became my fish and my aquarium and I got so addicted and loved fish keeping so much and continued on.  When the tropicals all died eventually I replaced them with goldfish..then I started ponding and nevr loooked back !   AND I have never once EVER drank fish water LOL! Wink

Mindemae: That's such a sweet story :'D But I don't really understand why some people have to suck on the hose... I mean, simple physics to use it, really! xD And without sucking it d:

I'm quite happy around here with my fiance too actually! Smiley He really likes my fish, and he's supporting me very much about keeping them and he's even helping me with the water changes! Cheesy Not to mention that he snuggles with them from time to time Smiley
