Calling Moderator and all members interested in Goldfish Anatomy
« on: April 17, 2010, 07:42:08 PM »

Hi Everybody,

Suggestion to Moderator:
to create a board "Goldfish Anatomy" where all questions can be answered, to make this forum a unique source of information without hunting for info through the www all the time.

As eyes are my profession, I love to gather as much info as I can about the sight of a (Gold)fish and put it on here in my own words and also mention the source if necessary (for pics, for example)

Then of course there would be more themes to cover:

nervous system
blood circulation
muscles
digestive tract
respiratory system
senses (smell, hearing, tasting, sensing, etc)
fins
scales
skeletton
swimm bladder
reproductive system

Are you interested to take on  one of those topics and research?

I believe this would be great if we could create a BIG source of information on this forum

It would be like an information bank! Yes that's a WONDERFUL Idea Hanna! Smiley I'm in! it would also help us better understand diseases of the fish, knowing where the parts are and what they function as. Tongue And it's a lot easier than hunting through other websites and especially the health and illness board.

Thanks Kat,

exactly, this is the idea of it. It will take work to built it up but I think it is worth it.
Whish I'd get more replies on ths one and who wants to research what. Smiley

The Health and Illness Board is good as it creates different topics to the problems people currently have with their fishies.

The Anatomy Board should be strongly structured according to those themes I mentioned in my first post where people can put their knowledge in

Hope the mods will see this! I think it's a great idea! (:
Because the "general goldfish discussion" is getting kinda' flooded by all kinds of questions about the goldfish's bodies. Like how to gender them and stuff d:

Give it time; I just saw this myself.
I'd love to see that board as well.  I'm afraid I don't know enough to help, though.

and so it will. If people like it then theyll post. Don't worry. Mind, it's unlikely they'll make the board, what with all the formatting and computing and making room. I've tried making a site before... It's a pain in the rear! Tongue

As I mentioned before, as eyes are my profession I am very interested in knowing more about the sight of a goldfish ( Humps and Heps eyes amaze me so much ) and starting with this research I learned very interesting things, and also how many similarities there are between the human eye and the teleost eye... and of course differences  Wink

Like, maybe the moderators all think that maybe they have anough already. Consider the following exchange between these next two people:

"You know what this map needs? It needs more sand"

"MORE SAND? We're surrounded by sand!"

"No.. just a little.. like two cubic tons"

"TWO CUBIC TONS??"

"wait... no like, you know.. just a little pile, over there.. like twocubictons"

"Do you have any idea how much two cubic tons is?"

"HAY GUYZ LOOK WHAT I FOUND" -random explosion-

After reading through this forum and articles on the home page, I think the new added board should have 2 parts:
1  Goldfish Anatomy
2  Goldfish Deseases ( Symptoms, Causes, Treatment )

as many websites on the www still do miss certain things, I noticed....

As far as goldfish senses go, I'm wondering if they can see color.  I came out of the kitchen with a bowl of small, round, green food.  They got excited when they saw it and probably started thinking "Peas!  Oh boy!"  I had to tell them sorry, but I'm pretty sure you guys don't want wasabi peas. Goldfish being Teleosts do have colour vision. In their retina they have 2 types of receptor cells: cones - respondible for colour vision and rods - responsible to detect light and dark. Same principle as in humans.
Towards this they also have receptor cells to see the UV spectrum. Us humans can see the spectrum of the visible light only which consits of the rainbow colours.
At the same time, the deeper a fish lives in the water, the less cones are developed, but more rods. This is because water absorbs lots of light and at a depth of about 25 m colours start to disappear and everything starts to look more blue'ish-grey'ish

My fishies need to eye in every mug, glass (wine or beer, lol) or plate I have in my hands, lol  CheesyGrin
