Aqua tech filter ?
« on: February 20, 2012, 09:32:09 PM »

Our ten gallon tank has a aqua tank filter. It came with it in the starter package. Lately when I change water and re start it it I have been noticing a whitish powedery stuff at the bottom of the tank. I do believe it's coming from the filter somehow. Because the little panda fish died I took everything apart and cleaned the tank, and cleaned and rinsed the filter as best I could. I still noticed that there was a powdery white stuff at the bottom of the tank right after I got it running again. So anybody know what this could be?

The aquatech is a Walmart brand filter  and it doesn't seem like there is anything inside it that could produce the white stuff.. The motor is separated from the filter housing.  Check and see if the white powder came from your tank decorations or something else?

Well, hmmmm, I don't know where else this stuff would be coming from. It's been there several times over the last week or two.
So if the motor is separate there shouldn't be any hidden spots where junk might collect, then. I guess I have to think about it some more. When I noticed this there was nothing in the tank at all, just bare bottom.

What have you treated the water with? Could be some residues from that, if you added something other than salt.

Easy balance has visible nitrate lowering granules, that's the powdery substance you see, leave it alone Smiley
