Thank you, Summertime! Smiley
Wow! That Aquarium Adventure sounds like a very nice place!
Are you going fish shopping there or did you already? Wink
Cichlids are very pretty and I had a couple at one time but they are so aggressive and territorial.
I'm not sure I want to keep them ever again.
I like a peaceful, planted aquarium where everyone gets along. Smiley
I must be getting old! LOL!  I'd rather have peace in my life! Cheesy
You wil have to post pictures when you get all your fishes back together again and the tank all set. Smiley

I think oscars do need a heater, but not set for too high temperatures. Either way, there are lots of African cichlids that are peaceful and nice Smiley Which of course are the ones you should choose for a tank Wink There are some of them that should be kept in a one-species setup, but I would really prefer to keep a few shoals of different kinds to make a nice variety Smiley

Not to mention that I'm so in love with Oscars because they grow so big and beautiful! Smiley They can even feed from your hand, just like goldfish Smiley I would love a few pearl cichlids as well... but then I don't know if they go along with Oscars.. >> I could ask some more experienced people! Cheesy (I want a huge pleco with them too...)

Nossie: That's actually quite a clever observation and I've never even thought about it. I don't think I would like to risk at all! Also I asked what friends the Oscars have in their tanks and the only ones I can remember were Red Devil and a huge Pleco, which I don't remember seeing so I'll have to look for it next time. Oscars are interesting, but a bit ugly for me haha Tongue

Ugly, really? Shocked
Just look at that cute faace! Grin (But I want a dark one with orange markings, they're the most beautiful to me)

Those African cichlids do share a lake/river Wink So they rather stay away from eachother there, but I don't think that technique would work in a tank, so that's why it's probably better checking their temper and such before buying any Smiley

Cute oscar.  Smiley

Here are 2 pictures I took when I was in the store Aquarium Adventure.  He said the one made with stone is like the natural environment that cichlids live in.

I will be going back to check out their aquariums.  I definitely want a long one, still deciding on how big to get it.  I have 1 shubunkin and 1 comet that are juveniles, and I still get a free fish from Petsmart, so I'm going to get an orange comet when I'm ready.  That makes 3 goldfish that can each get 14" long, so I should probably get at least a 55 gallon.  UGH!  If you do the math and give 2 gallons per inch, that's 84 gallons!

It is fun!  I just checked out their web site, and there are only 4 in the U.S.  Maybe you can start one near your home, they say there are franchise opportunities  Smiley

I guess there are, like goldfish Wink

The thing I like about oscars is the adorable shapes on their fins and bodies, they look so round and cozy somehow Smiley

Hanna: Just so you know, I recently visited the bigger pet store here to buy a heater for the biOrb (I found one that's meant for bowls and whatnot) and I was talking and laughing about fish for a good while with one of the people there! Cheesy So now, I am happy to announce that there's only one grumpy person that knows nothing about fish in that shop! Cheesy

Minde: Your tank looks gorgeous! Even nicer now than before! Smiley Lovely Wink

Minde: Which one was the 55 gallon? Is that one of the goldfish tanks? Smiley

Hanna: Absolutely! I suddenly feel very happy that both the pet stores around here are very well "educated" Smiley And I love sharing stories with the staff about their fish as well! Cheesy

The 55 gallon is my oranda tank...it's sorely in need of an upgrade.
I'd love to have a swim-through fixture but I haven't found one big enough! Cheesy

I have that mopani wood Smiley It has this branch standing out on the upper part and it creates a kind of arched structure, my goldfish love peeking out from there Wink Maybe it doesn't have to be a closed swim-through ornament but just giving a hint Wink

Thanx April! Smiley
The background is almost 3D.
Sometimes when I look at it I can almost feel like I could walk through the sand, beyand the confines of the tank, and then swim in the water and go up to the surface. Wink
I don't know if that makes sense.  I love the feel it gives of the ocean and with the carribean sand in the tank well it certainly makes me feel like I'm at the beach! LOL!  Only my favorite place! Wink

Minde: They have big shelves/baskets in the pet shop with different kinds of driftwood in each level Smiley You can go there and pick any kind, shape and size you like! Cheesy That mopani wood is from Africa, and really good since it sinks on it's own and it doesn't turn the water yellow Smiley

Well didn't see your post and we went to petsmart today out of town.  I will have to check and see if they have something like that.  I loked at tank ornaments but didn't see any swim throughs big enough for the orandas.  The problem is they are like round baseballs with fins! Cheesy  So nothing is wide enough! Grin
OMG! my husband bought me a glass versa top and 2 led light hoods for my 55 gallon oranda tank!
He said Merry xmas!! LOL!   The led light fixture is so cool it has the daytime light and then the moonlight feature and it also has a "shimmer" feature!  I can't wait to set it up! Wink
