Confused about my tank capacity??

Sold to us as a 120 litre.. but just worked out the actual capacity using a fish tank volume calculator and it's telling me its actually 141 litres, which I would be ecstatic about! I haven't measured it improperly either, measured the height from the top of the water line, not from the top of the tank itself.. it's also a bow front aquarium so would this mean it holds more or less water? Thrilled because that means its actually 31 gallons by UK standards and 37 gallons by US standards, so that is definitely good?

Sounds pretty nice indeed!
I'm not that good at maths, but it sort of depends whether the bow is adding to the dimensions or removing. By removing I mean taking away parts of the front corners. Hopefully someone else here will have something smarter to say... :'D

Is it possible that the tank being sold as 120 litres, means that 120 litres is it's useful volume?
As you won't fill the aquarium all the way to the top, there will be 3 inches or so at the top and you also have to consider displacement with ornaments, gravel etc on the bottom.
For example my tank works out at 110 litres, but when I filled it, I counted 90 litres of water.

Well there's a gap anyway because of where the filter sits and you have to fill it right up to the line.. And as I said I didn't measure it completely I only measured the actual water level because I wanted accurate volume.. Could be some displacement from gravel and ornaments but not much

I think that would make pretty much sense, however I still think they should mention both the useful volume and total volume.
