I just skimmed three books and found nothing unless "the eye is protrouding in an abnormal way" Huh If so it might be pop-eye. Hang on I'm sure someone more experienced will help soon. It would be helpful if you read the thread at the top of the illness forum and followed the directions, posting the details it asks for.

It probably has something to do with keeping so many fish in a too-small tank. If you would like to do something right now do a big water change, can't hurt. Be sure to measure the water conditioner carefully, once when I was upset and nervous I added too much. I don't want to give any further advice since I have never even heard of "bubbles" on the eyes....

I think if you could post some photo's of these 'bubbles' Syn that would be really helpful, as I've never heard or come across this either, but I'm sure we can help you out, if we can see what it is your talking about Smiley

[Update]

Okay so I've been looking around a bit and you say the fish didn't have these bubbles for the first 6 months?
It could be possible that you actually have a celestial or bubble eye goldfish.
The bubble eye goldfish develop their eye sacs after they're 3 months old... so maybe not that.. hmm
As for the celestial bubble eye goldfish their eyes are normal at first but the eyes begin to protrude outwards like a telescope-eye goldfish and then turn upwards within a period of 6 months.

Both fish I believe have fan tails.

Photos here courtesy of google, the first fish is the Bubble Eye the second fish is the Celestial Bubble Eye, third is the Telescope Eye.

I'm not sure if this fits into what your experiencing, but it's all I can think of right now!

Good idea Skwishee, I didn't think of that! Does the fish have a normal dorsal fin (top fin)? Purebred celestial and bubble-eye do not have one. But it could be a mixed-breed of some kind....

A goldfish should either be born with bubbles on the eyes, or not have them at all, they don't develop by age, they just grow along with the fish Smiley

But it is a problem having so many goldfish in such a small place, and since you switched the filter recently, you probably caused the tank to start a mini cycle, meaning that the ammonia is building up, making your fish weaker and susceptible to disease.

I had a bout with pop eye recently, a big water change was enough and it passed, turns out (as it said in one of my books) if it's just one eye on one fish, it could be a physical injury causing the blood vessels behind the eye to swell, and it would pass in a week Smiley (Heh, breeding time in the tank, of course one of my little boys had to get bumped D: )

As everyone else said, some photos would probably help! Smiley

Oh interesting info Nossie I didn't know that, I know the idea of breeds was a bit hap hazard but it was all I could think of XD

Although I don't think fish are born with physical eye sacs and things from the beginning, from what I read, they develop a little while after they've hatched, so the fry will have perfectly normal eyes, you wouldn't see the protuded eyes/eye sacs until their a little older  Smiley (At least this is what wikipedia says it could be wrong XD)

Meaning that they're born with it Wink Goldfish look much like platy fry when they're born, as do all fish, and they develop their shapes and traits after a couple weeks Smiley
