hi i thought i would share what i use foe my media i use polyester stuffing from ever soft( at walmart) it is the stuff that u make pillows with or what dog toys are filled with it cost 15 $ for 12 oz and will last forever u still have to use carbon after it gets clogged up just throw it away and put more in. this is what my fish guy uses for his tanks. he has over 1000 galons of water and it takes him 2 years to go throw one of the big bags of this stuff cost him about 25$ every 2 years this stuff only works as a mechanical filter trust me u should try it save a whole lot of money on buying the other stuff. this is a trade secret u wont read it any where and not many will tell u about it think about it how much would it cost if u bought filter medias for a 1000 gallons of water a year. it would make u broke.

I've heard of the carbon trick Nice info!! By the way, girls, speaking about filters and saving.... I GOT THE MOST AWESOME DEAL YESTERDAY!! I went to the pet shop to get my filter for the tank I ordered, since they didn't find it last time d: They had told me before, that I'd pay a small extra sum to get a bigger, better filter for the tank, since they're aware of the fact that the ones that go with the tank sets usually are kinda' crappy and small. So I got myself a filter worth 80€, the biggest one they had, pumping about 1000l/h but I got 20€ discount on that because that's the cost of the little filter, but I still asked if I could get the smaller filter too ;> Which I did It pumps about 500l/h. In other words, yesterday I bought two internal power filters worth 100€ and paid only 60€ *proud*
