When using water conditioner do you mix it into fresh water just before you add it to the tank or do you add it to fresh water and leave the water sitting for 24 hours.

I was told by my local fish shop to add it to fresh water and leave the water for 24 hours. I did that but found i didn't have enough buckets to keep the fresh water in. My sister in law told me to mix it into the fresh water before adding it to the tank. I now do this as its a lot easier. I want to know who is right or are they both wrong

So the man at the fish shop was making us leave the water with the conditioner in it for 24 hours for no reason. No wonder it was a hard job for me

I was always just mixing it into the water while I fill the buckets That way the water movement will mix it real nicely. I sometimes leave the buckets to sit for just a few minutes while I trim the plants or clean the glasses of the tank though c:

When I change the aquarium water, I usually put the fresh water into a bucket, where I'll then add the conditioner. Then I wait a few minutes as I mix the water (making sure the conditioner has had enough time to condition the water - I use AquaSafe for this). After several minutes, I'll slowly add the fresh water to the aquarium.

I've been using this method for over 10 years and haven't ran into any problems.
