Yes, Mindemae, I got it and replied  Wink

I did use bacteria booster when I had the problem.
Just a few minutes sth "funny?" happened. Hepsiba was sitting in the teracotta vase, sucking at some gravel and when I came and looked into the tank she shot out like frenzy, up and behimnd the filter and down under some plant leaves.
My eyes couldn't follow her so quick

pH too low.
Must have turned in the tank, because I always test the fresh water and adjust to 7.2
So what's the best method to get it up now without stressing the fish?

Prepared Water has pH of 7.2 now.
Should I get it up a bit higher to mix with the tankwater (which is 6.2 ) so my babies won't have a pH shock?

gee that ph is low.  The only way I know of is to treat your water with a ph additive.
Could something in the tank, like a decoration, be causing the lower ph?

You can add a little baking soda to the water to make it more alkaline.  But the changes must be gradual so as not to shock the fish.

I added pH UP.
I wonder if this could be the case. I will remove those plastic vases I put in last time and the new glass marbles.
I will put the rock back in and put the Elodea in that hole.

I think if I leave the new water at this pH and do a partial change about 30% shouldn't be too much shock for them.
Will be back in a few minutes

It also says in this book, that you can add ground oyster shell or coarse ground agricultural limestone to the filter if your water has a tendency to turn acidic continually.

It says also that some people transfer their fish to a more acidic water 6.4 before a show because goldfish shine the beast and brightest in slightly more acidic water.

Waah! I was gone for two days and I already feel far behind! xD
I was getting worried about you, Kat! Good to have you back! Cheesy

Now, I'll give a few answers to a few things you're done discussing here:
I use to bury my air stone in the gravel, which you noticed on the photos, I'm sure Wink Now, one of my fish got the nasty habit of digging it out. He goes into the bubble "curtain" and simply lifts the rocks up in his mouth and spits them out behind the stone, it's completely uncovered now after only a few days!
Mom's goldfish uses to dig huge holes and make pretty piles of gravel wherever he wants to, sometimes you can see the tank floor. He knows what he wants c:

And Hanna, in the start I used to add a bit of some pH-raising conditioner of some kind, but always after the water changes directly into the tank. It was dosed in the way that it would raise the pH with one step every time you add it, and you shouldn't add it more than twice a day, and test the water both before and half an hour after! It worked pretty nicely for me (: For some reason, I haven't had to use that for quite a while now!

Good news: MY FISH AREN'T HOVERING ANYMORE! Even if all of them are together (: And the nitrates are all fine! Cheesy (I have no idea how this works!)

No wait I have a couple minutes. OKay:

So i tried to bury the airstone, but it didnt work because... well I dunno if the bubbles were commming on too strong or what, but it kinda unburied itself. I need another one of those aeration kits. SmileySmiley

I need to go out and get a bunch of stuff, especially if I want to get a betta in the near future. I dunno if Ill have time this weekend. Once I sort everythign otu I think ill be good.

Oh, a betta? Cheesy Would you keep it in Sonorus' old home maybe? (: I think that bowl was really pretty, and I'm sure a betta would be lovely in it!

Actually, Sonorus's old bowl is going to a friend. She really really really wants a fish, and I want to get her set up with a betta cause theyre the lowest maintenance fish I think.. Smiley I want to put mine in a three gallon, but I dunno if thats too much water for the little guy

Sounds exciting to me, Kat. And what a lovely thought to give your friend the bowl with betta, all set up.

What would happen if you get yourself 2 bettas, a male and a female. They won't fight each other and wouldn't be so allone ?

Ohh yes, when I burried the airstone the bubbles were too violent too, same with the airhose which has got all those tiny holes for a soft bubble curtain. So it just lays on the surface at the back of tthe tank.

Nossie, how good to know your fish are ok!

I admit, I do not know much about bettas but I think male and female must not fight too much if they do?
It may be a little "violent" play ?  Wink

Well Male bettas will fight with other male bettas and males fight with females too.
I think you can keep female bettas with female bettas.  The males have to be kept alone as they are the trouble makers.  Most female bettas, to me are not as beautiful as the males ones are tho. Undecided
And if your going to keep in a small bowl then 1 betta would be all there would be room for.
You can't keep two male bettas togethr as they will fight to the death.

well I was wondering cause I have that three gallon.. its... too little for a small goldfish, but its big enough for a betta to swim around comfortably.. Smiley and maybe another.. ummm... lesse... its a round, tall sort of tank... about a foot in diameter, and two feet tall (round about.. too lazy to get actual measurements lol) anyway, its a fair size. too small for a fantail. I know, I tried putting a goldfishy in there.. he died Sad

Poor little goldfish..... but now we all know better.

.... well I was thinking, if a male and female betta fight too.... I dunno.... they must be friendly with each other too, to have betta children... lol, I must sound st*pid  Grin
