ok...

UPDATED!!!

Ok, so Dusk is not doing so well. I'm thinking of getting a heater since the house is pretty cold, but right now he is just lying at the bottom of the tank, sometimes at the top, on his side and he's breathing REALLY hard. I don't know what to do! He's not even scared of my hand. I got him last Friday, and he hasn't eaten since then either. HELP!

What are your water parameters like, dear?

temperature of the water?

Can we get some numbers to work with?
Is he showing any other signs of discomfort, other than the not eating. Any spots or lacerations on his body?

I would try betta fix on him if you haven't already but the labored breathing is bad.
He may not make it.  What is petco's waranty on new fish?
I know Petsmart is 14 days.

Minde: PetCo's warranty is 30 days, so I have a good deal to work with if little Dusk doesn't make it.  Embarrassed

Katarine: the water is pretty cold  Undecided 65-70 degrees maybe? I've moved Dusk's bowl and now it's right beneath a lamp that's usually on so that should be a little helpful. I'm also asking to turn up the heat in our house, and I'm going to put up some blankets in front of the windows so drafts can't get in.

Did you use conditioner when you set up his bowl? And checked the pH? And as Kat asked what are the water parameters? We need numerical results. When did you change his water last?

Orandalover I am sorry to hear Dusk has not yet eaten and is doing so poorly. Thinking of you and wishing wellness for your little one  Embarrassed

Oh I didn't know that was a show Betta, just was stunned when I came across the video and it's fantastic shape and colour. I wonder what he and his wife would sell for...

Oranda lover,
You could try a heating pad on low underneath his bowl.
That might keep him a little warmer. Smiley

Hope your dusk is doing better Hun.

I think all us goldie lovers gave a thing for bettas too. We have one my daughter named squishy like dorie named the jelly fish in finding memo lol.

When I first saw bettas before I started spending so much money on fish I fell in love with one at petco but was shocked it was $15 now I kick myself for not getting it. He was a half-moon doubletail with really fluffy long tail and he was solid opaaque white with that iridesent shimmer that made him appear pink. I have tried to find one like him with no luck. But that is my dream betta. Hey anyone think it would interesting to start a thread that we could post pictures of the fish we dream of having one like, goldies and all?

If you want to see that post Aimee from my point of view you just have to look at the fish you own  Cheesy Haha. I want some gorgeous Ranchu's like yours.

But yes I think most of us own a betta, I don't but it's going to be my next fish Smiley

Thanks for the support guys. There seem to have been so many fish deaths with me recently - now a new one. Dusk died on Thursday, RIP little guy. Before he died I found two fungus growing off his back, and one of his fins was half chopped off.

So sorry Hun, as for losing fish don't feel too badly about it I have been reading some posts on goldfishkeepers and several of the experts on there are losing fish, they say this is worst time of year for infections and other problems with them,
Something to do with the temperatures dropping and stuff. Plus there are some nasty strains of things going around that are resistant to meds.

Thanks guys. I'm really sad about Dusk  Sad

Aimee - that's interesting. I didn't know there were times of year when fish have more infections than other times. Hm

Aww big hugs sweetie go sit with your new baby Athena and let yourself fill up with love as you watch her swim around. It is wonderful that you have brought her home and right around Christmas so you can share in each others company. Peace ♥

With every loss something new comes along... it's just how life works Smiley I would never have Horus if Marneus would have lived, and I would never have the little pearlies if Claymore wouldn't have passed away.

We'll always miss our beloved fish though, and that's another part of it all Smiley
