Suprise, Suprise!

Hi all, It's been awhile since I've posted but I do pop in to see how everyone is doing. My little pearlscale Dreamsicle is getting big and doing very well in the larger tank with Lemonade. They are both happy and healthy. I originally had Dreamsicle in my smaller tank with 3 platies when he/she was very small. After moving Dream to the bigger tank, I ended up with 6 playties but for some reason all of them died over a period of time but my original orange one. This girl must some fighter. I had planned on going tomorrow to the pet store to get her some new companions, but guess I won't have to worry about that for a while. I looked in the tank and had to put my glasses on to get a real good look, but we now have around 10 little ones swimming in there too. I'm really excited as I've never had babies from any fish I have ever owned, so this was quite a surprise. No wonder she has been hiding in the big fake plant. I was going to clean the tank tomorrow so it's a good thing I saw them or I'm afraid they probably would have gotten sucked into the gravel cleaner unintenonally. I'm still going to have to be real careful when I do clean. So what should I feed these little guys until they get bigger? I'm going to make a stop at the pet store tomorrow to see what they suggest. I have some frozen baby brine shrimp that I thawed and dumped in there today.
Just wanted to share my news and once they get bigger I'll take some pictures.

I'm assuming these guys are platies, in which case they'll eat just about anything

Congratulations! I gave mine liquifry for livebearers and then just put some normal adult food in aswel. If you can get some liquifry that would be good if not soaked flakes work. Enjoy them they are wonderful little things!

Well, after debating on what to do this morning, I still need to clean the tank, so I tried to remove as many of the little ones as I could because I really don't want to suck any up, there are still a few I missed so will try one last time, but I'm going to get some more plants so they can hide and I have many more than I thought I did so if I do suck some up
I apologize to the fish god profusly. I know for sure some are orange, and I've seen a few yellow, those are the biggest ones, the others are too tiny yet. I also crushed up some fish flakes and feed them again, so we shall see. I do hope some of them live. I'm going to put them back in with mom after the clean up and hopefully won't have to clean again for a while and give them a chance to grow.
Oops, sorry Scrivens, yes they are platies.

Mine usually eat flakes and the dust from the bottom of tubifex and blood worm jars
It's a good way to use up everything the goldfish can't eat

I shouldn't worry about how many survive, a pair of platies can produce 40+ fry every 4 weeks once they reach maturity...they are the aquatic equivalent of rabbits

I just spotted them yesterday and I only have the momma left, no other platies in the tank so it will just be mom and babies. I bought a floating plant today to put in once I have the whole thing cleaned out good. I hope a few of them make it.
