What aquarium plants should I buy?
«

Hello,
I had some plants which were doing fine until winter time when they became sick which I believe was due to lack of light and the temperature of my aquarium. I have a light for my aquarium now but the plants do not seem to be getting better. They are loosing a lot of leaves and are a little discoloured.
So I was just wondering what plants are best suited for cold aquariums? My tank is 3 foot long.
And also how long I should leave the light on for? Lately I have been leaving it on for about 10 hours a day, is this okay?
Thanks!

First: WELCOME to the forum.
We have Elodea, Ambulia, Vallisneria, Hornworth, Java Fern, Dwarf Anubias, Water Sprite, Riccia and a Water Lilly.
Also we keep the light on for about 12 hours, keep the temp stable and feed with plant grow.

Sounds great! If you think your plants look a bit dead or sick, you could try to buy some plant nutrition from the pet shop! It usually says on that how to, and when to dose

Okay, thanks for the advice.
I will have to buy some plant nutrition/growth from the pet shop then
Also on an unrelated topic...
My common goldfish named Fanta is about a year old and over the past few months the tip of his tail and on his stomach has started to turn white. I know its not tail rot or fungus.
I was just wondering if this was something to worry about? Or could he be changing colour?
Thanks

Can you please post a photo of Fanta.
It could be that he/she is changing colour... but can you describe how the white patch does look like, please?

Here are the photos of Fanta.
I tried to take a photo of under his stomach but he kept swimming near the bottom of the tank! lol
I'm pretty sure its nothing to worry about but its best to be sure
Thanks!

I think your Fanta has got more Comet in him than Common as his tail is quite forked. The pure common tail is very short and less forked; more compact. Fanta must be a crossbreed between those two.
I cannot see anything wrong with him. He's got white in his fins, so he will have a white belly too

Okay, he must be a cross between a comet and common then cause his tail doesn't look as forked as a comet but also not as short as a common.
Yeah its just that progressively over the past few months Fanta has been showing more white on this belly and tail, but I guess his true colours must just be starting to show as he grows
Thanks for your help

It is a pleasure to help
Our Hepsiba was like your Fanta when we first got her. I didn't know much about goldfish either and first thought she may be a Common...
But she is a pure Comet as she is growing the fins develop and the fork got deeper and her tail just flows beautifully in the water. ANd she was less white too than she is now
Perhaps same thing might happen with your Fanta, too? Time will tell.
But for now: more Comet, less Common....
