whats wrong with my water?

Ok so Bubbles and Spaz are doing SO MUCH better thanks to everyone who gave me advice Smiley they are now swimming around the tank happy as can be and playing tag. they will even come to the front of the tank and make fishy faces at me lol ( i know how weird this sounds) but they are doing so much better. fins arent healing yet but they are not getting worse Smiley

but my problem is the water is getting cloudier and cloudier and I dont know what to do about it. I am feeding them a dime sized amount crushed up twice a day morning and evening. And the fish are acting fine. Maybe a little more active but that shouldnt be a problem. the guppies are acting normal the goldfish are acting happy. So what could be causing such a murky tank?

Your tank is cycling, as we replied to your other posts in your threads.
It is all the good bacteria which try to establish and find a home in the tank.

It would be important now to make partial waterchanges about 10-15% maximum. Do it every 2nd day. If you haven't got a piece of hose yet, you can scoop it out with a jug or a pot and put fresh water in. Be smart and use  your imagination Wink
As soon as you can please get your test kit and some water conditioner at least. The conditioner is important to remove chloramine from tap water, it also detoxifies Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate ( "Prime" from Seachem )

I have a very high quality water conditioner Smiley and I already cycled the tank and even added a bacteria supplement ... did I start a mini cycle?

The tank can't be cycled that fast, sorry d: It usually takes weeks and even MONTHS for a tank to be properly cycled, so don't think that you can pour in a bio-filter booster and say that your tank is cycled Wink
But the cycle is started already as the first ammonia is excreted by the fish, so you can't decide whether it should start or not, it simply does, because the beneficial bacteria are needed to keep your fish alive Smiley We recently discussed the cycle in the thread about the "sick shubunkin" you could take a look there to find more details Smiley

Since you don't have any natural gravel in your tank, you can't blame that for the cloudiness either Wink It's usually like that with gravel that it's full of dust, and it needs to be cleaned thoroughly not to cloud the water Smiley Just thought it might be good to know!

You should just follow Hanna's advice for now and do small but frequent water changes, and the cloudiness will go away eventually Smiley Save up for the test kit! Wink

There are quite a few threads about the Nitrogen Cycle, also in Aquatic community there's heaps of info. Did you download the e-book from there? Also you should read up on the sticky topics, they are very important and soooo informative. I've learned lots from there Wink

Before you scoop the water out, please rinse your jug or pot very very good to make sure there is no dish washer liquid residue on there.

And the test kit is the next important to have.

I'm going to designate a bucket just for the tank. and I did not download the e-book as this is not my computer ... I dont have a computer.

I did cycle the tank for 6 weeks ... though i dont know how long it takes for bacteria to die since i shut down my tank.

I get paid in two weeks ... then I can order the test kit. Do you I should wait that long?

Or I could borrow money from someone and get the kit ...

sorry they aren't great pictures the last one was what Spaz looked like when I got him the others are them now and my tank. Bubbles is also starting to get a little hint of black on his back fins.

they are still VERY active ( just in the course of taking pictures they made like 5 laps lol) and are eating as you can tell from Bubbles belly Smiley I only feed them a little pinch twice a day so they are not being overfed. I think whatever he may be mixed with just has a hefty belly.

Sorry I was just posting this to see what was wrong with my fish and if the black pattern on Spaz is growing. Sorry I forgot to mention that

If the black pattern or maybe spots? are not natural colour they are Ammonia burns. Due to the fact that your tank is cycling and Ammonia still present. You NEED to do those waterchanges as we mentioned before. The burns will heal eventually.
And save up for the test kit, you NEED it ASAP.

well I know he had spots when I got him on the fins its natural and the one on his tail is too ... but it seems to be spreading across his belly.

We can't decide for you whether the black spots are spreading or not, because we haven't seen the fish irl.
Are you doing anything about this at the moment? Are you doing those water changes?

 if it is just cloudy water problem

that nomally means

1 your filter is to small or not working right

2 u feed them 2 much that is what i think the problem is try to feed them half of what u are and see if it getts better

creamkiller: I am feeding them a tiny pinch and my filter is working great and rated for 15 gallons. Plus the water is looking a little clearer today Smiley I'm thinking they are right about cycling

Nossie: I am feeding a tiny pinch twice a day and doing 15% water changes every other day. I also ordered a water test kit

Tank is still cycling, it will take a while.
Please post the test results after you had the water tested at the petshop.

i dont know u normally need a filter that is rated for at least 2 times the amount it is rated for on the box.

if u are doing 15% water change it could be helping your filter to keep up with its job when u stop the 15% water change if the tank get cloudy again its u might need a better filter or u might have to keep doing the water changes every day.

I cant afford a filter right now I had to splurge on the test kit. But doing the water changes right now is no big deal Smiley the only thing is the fish cant stay in there forever and if I get another filter I will have nothing to use it on as my bettas need a much weaker filter.

I don't want to be mean to you, creamkiller, but don't go talking about her filter being bad, I think there are enough things to worry about for now Wink

It would definitely be a waste of money to buy a bigger filter when this setup is only temporary, but goldfish do need a really good filter with a big space for filter media for the beneficial bacteria to grow on, so they could keep up with the waste generated by goldfish.

BUT today, these fish are small, and today Elliryanna is doing a great job with keeping them healthy by the means possible and available to her. So there's nothing to pick on there Smiley And like Hanna said, please post the results from the water tests when you get them! Smiley

I will definetly post the results Smiley And thanks so much guys Smiley your helping a lot. yeah its a lot of worries and a lot of money but my fish are doing so much better. Ammonia burns are spreading so i'm getting ammonia neutralizer. I kinda dont ever want to rehome the little ones Sad I love them so much but I cant set up my forty and would have nowhere to keep it anyway. When they are all better I dont know what I'm going to do.

I'm now not even sure I'm going to college Sad Financial problems again and My best friend is going back for testing to take sure he doesnt have cancer again so taking a loan out isnt on the top of my to do list. Though I need to. If I dont have i nowhere to live lol. I'll figure it out.

I just retested the water today and the ammonia is still .25 ppm, PH is still 8, nitrites are 0 and nitrates are 5-10 ppm

Do you have an extra airstone/bubbler in your tank besides the filter?  This will help considerably if you do.
