what d fish is this

i caught these in the yass river (australia) and wanted to know what kind of fish this is i know its a goldfish relative of some sort the ones i caught were from 2 to 5 cm i think they are a baby version of something. i'm kepping them in my tank unill they're bigger

I have no idea what they are, but why did you remove them from their natural habitat? You have no idea what fish they are, to know how to care for them, nor do you know how big they will grow too! Some fish can reach massive sizes despite their juvenile appearance.

May I ask what your intentions are once the fish have grown?
Are you even allowed to remove fish from rivers like this? I know for a lot of places you need licences just to fish, not sure about actually removing inhabitants.

Personally I would only buy fish from a local fish store, I wouldn't take them from a local river.

Have looked up what fish live in the Yass River ((Link is not visible to guests. Please register to view.) ) they could be Golden Perch, Brown Trout, Murray Cod or Redfin.
None of those are small fish and none of those are suitable for tanks, I would suggest you get in touch with a local authority to find out if there are laws/licenses required, if live stock caught and kept are okay to return to rivers and how to return/release them safely.

I would imagine releasing them back to their home would be okay, usually it's only non-native fish that are illegal to be released. But double checking is always a good thing.

Even from reading things on google, my impression has been that fish can only be caught and kept if they are of a legal size and even then the storage and keeping of the fish is to keep them in a freezer for consumption.

they lok alot like a wild goldfish or a baby carp and its illegal to release carp or goldfish in the river and i reasearched hat the crucian carp (a close relative of the goldfish has a black spot when juvenille ill have to put them in my pond with he goldfish and koi if they are carp they'll get massive

they'll turn into a monsters  Shocked luckily I can make the pond alot bigger because there's alot of leftover pond lining
that I haven't cut yet

I still think you should contact a local authority for an identification, I'm still baffled that you removed a fish from its habitat without knowing what it is, I'm sorry but regardless of your intentions that could be viewed as irresponsible and if someone illegally released goldfish into the river, there will be plenty more there anyway and it is an issue that should be reported.

You're going to need a massive pond if those are koi on your hands, I am not even kidding, koi carp need at least a 4546 litres/1000 gallons and that's considered small! If you have carp, then research, I imagine their requirements will be even more as carp grow even bigger. And please get in touch with someone who can identify what the fish actually are and if you can release them back to the river they came from.

How big is your pond?
It will need to be one heck of a size to accommodate carp properly.

What filtration does it have?

its got plenty of weed in it for filtration and im going to put a fountain in it to help and im able to triple the size of the pond

Perhaps enlarge the pond as soon as you can? Those carp are going to grow.

How big is the pond now and how big can it become?
