are mine veiltails

after falling inlove at first with my two goldfish i am new to the goldfish owners world but have been reading up on them before and ever since i bought them they give me hours of pleasure ans have their own personalitys they were sold to me from a garden centre as calico orandas which i now know they are not and after revision i think they are veiltails can you help me

Hi,
Your goldfish appear very healthy and are beautiful.


Here's some information i have about the oranda goldfish. This particular  variety was developed by crossbreeding the lionhead with the veiltail goldfish. So the oranda will have physical characteristics of both fish, with the hood of the lionhead and long flowing fins of the veiltail. The hood or cap on the oranda will not begin to develop until it is around 2 years of age, which is why your goldfish appear to look like they are veiltails at the moment. I see that the beautiful yellow one is beginning to develop its hood. 

So you are right in assuming they are veiltails , because the one on the right looks just like one. But this will change once the hood on its head begins to show.

Thanks very much i am not sure of the age of them but they are about 6 -7 inches in length and i love them to bits. the yellowy gold one is the character very confident and up to things all the time the calico one is a bit more shy

No, they couldn't be ranchus because ranchus don't have a dorsal fin! Smiley
the one on the left is definately an oranda.  It is starting to get a head growth, wen.
The one one the right or more centered is a fantail/maybe ryukin cross?
Well they are both really gorgeous.

Was thinking the same about the beauty on the right and a possible Ryukin cross. Your goldies are absolutley gorgeous! What pretty colours  Shocked
