IF the plants may be carrying some disease, it may be good to keep them separate from the fish for a week or so In case there would be parasites there, they die without fish as hosts.

But if your method has worked so far, why not continue like that?

Yeah, you never know :/ But if you're buying more hardy plants, like Java fern, who will withstand some salt treatment, you could try adding a normal dose of salt to the quarantine bucket/tank, that should take care of most nasty things

As Nossie said above the salt method usually works. It removes snails and potentially harmful parasites
