What is red spot with a white thing at the base of the tail ? is it serious or what? I'm starting to worry .  Sad

It does definitely not look healthy! Red spots on a fish are usually a bad sign. And here, it looks very much like some sort of parasite. It seems to me that it's coming out of his vent, meaning that he's got intestinal worms. It might look somewhat like threads if you'll look closer. So do a 50% water change, and start by treating the tank with salt. Remove any plants except for Java Fern (as other plants would be harmed by salt). Get some medical salt from the pet shop, and dose it according to the bottle/package. Dissolve the correct amount of salt in a bucket of dechlorinated water and add it to your tank.

It might be a good idea to start feeding him some medicated food against internal parasites/worms as well.
Remember to test the water daily, and change around 20-50% whenever the nitrates go above 30-40PPM, and add more salt for the amount of water you're adding.

I swabbed the spot with hydrogen peroxide. The white "thingy" fell off and now it's just the red spot. I added some salt. She/he seems to be fine.

If that's the case, you can skip on treating against internal parasites, just go for the salt and the meds Hanna mentioned Smiley
And please don't swab it anymore, it's a very good thing to do once on a wound, but if you do it anymore, it may stress out the fish, just make sure that he'll be getting better Smiley

I had a scary moment with Cinnamon the other day when I was doing water change. I accidentally siphoned her in the gravel vacuum. I was so glad  that  she wasn't hurt at all.  Smiley

Only that Berry did it more or less on purpose, she saw a strange tube coming by and she thought she'd check where it leads and her nose got stuck in the hose! Shocked
I caught her and examined her for any damage, but she was to okay, just a bit stressed Smiley

That's one thing nice about the water changers, if that should happen you only have to flick the switch at the base of the siphon tube to turn the suction off instantly! Wink  Well that and no buckets to carry!! Cheesy

You can easily stop the water flow in a siphon as well since you can just block the end of the hose with a thumb Wink
Still though, a water changer would be such a bliss!
