Which breed?

I'm thinking about getting a goldfish around christmas and was wondering if theres's a good breed for beginners? I already know the basics, don't use a bowl, have a filter, don't heat, etc. Thanks, Bluegolden

I would suggest a fantail since they require less space (about 20 gallons minimum) and are still very hardy.

if its just the single fish then yes
you could possibly have a second fancy i believe but let's wait for someone to back me up on that lol, i'm thinking the 20 gal for first fish plus 10 for each addtl fish rule here but i don't know off hand how big bubble eyes get and if it would be best to have 30 gal for a single fish
if a second fish is possible and you want one, the tank mate would need to be another sight impaired fish like a second bubble eye or a moor/telescope eye so that the bubble eye would not be outcompeted for food

30 gallon tanks tend not to have enough swim room. Is the tank at least 3 foot long?

I personally wouldn't recommend the bubble eyes, you need to ensure there is nothing sharp in the tank, or they could burst their eye sacs. Not only this but their eyes point upwards, making it difficult for them to find food to eat and I can't imagine them being able to forage like a normal goldfish.

your tank is the wrong shape for a goldfish. Why not use it for small tropical fish?

Yeah I agree with scrivens, goldfish need longer tanks of at least 3 or 4 foot, the longer the better really! So if you could get hold of something that's 5 or 6 foot, that would be even better Cheesy

Tropical fish could be a consideration for that tank though Smiley

Ohhh 55 gallons I assume you mean there? Grin How long is the tank out of curiosity?

If you had a decent external filter for it, you could have possibly 2 or 3 fancy goldfish in there?

Also I would look into bubble eyes a little bit if I were you, in terms of how to decorate a tank appropriately so they can't burst their eye sacs and if people have any tips on feeding them Smiley

I think it's about four feet long, I have some fish in it now, but I have a tank in my room that I can move them to

How many tanks do you have?  Shocked
As long as the tank you are moving them into is suitable and won't be stunting them or over crowding the tank.

What do you currently have in the 55?  Smiley

I have four, a one gallon(it's empty right now) for my bettas isolation tank when she's sick, a fifteen gallon running one with my betta in it, a thirty gallon that's empty, and the 55 gallon. I have swordtails, a few baby platys, two big plecos, two small corycatfish, a few pectus catfish, some algae eaters, and two angelfish (had three, but my mom's kittten got one:|

Also the kitten doesn't get in the tank now since I punished her, so the fish are safe

I don't actually have that many of them, I recently sold a lot of the babies to my lps, the others I will be able to have in my other tank.
